Calorie Counting Question
Hey y'all, so my husband and I just started counting our calories. He wants to lose 25 pounds and I'm 14 from goal (my ticker won't update) anyway I've noticed lately that I've been able to eat more, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't OVER eating.
My question is, on websites that calculate how many calories to take in in order to lose 1-2 pounds a week, is that the same for us? According to whatever website my husband used, that to into account my weight, sex, and activity level, I should be consuming about 1500 calories. This seems like a lot to me, but maybe I'm just thinking in baby, 6 week post op portions. I'll be a year out on the 13th, and I run 5+ miles 3 times a week.
If you are still trying to lose, I would limit your calories to 1200. I never eat back my exercise calories. Those calorie calculators are not accurate for most of us.

If you have access to a service that will calculate RMR (resting metabolic rate) for you, you'd have probably the most accurate figure. When I got my body fat scan done last month, I noticed the company also did RMR testing. I'm going to have that done in May when I'm back in the States. I figure that will be good to know for maintenance purposes.
Good luck to you!
Does your surgeon or bariatric center have a maintenance plan? My plan says 12-18 months: 1100-1300 calories, 100-130 grams carb & 80 grams protein per day. maintenance (18+ months): 1200-1400 calories, 130+ gm. carbs, 80 grams protein.
Post RNY we always have to think protein first for a meal or snack. (That is different from the general public). We also malabsorb food so are needs are different.
I am short and over 60, and have a sedentary job. All those things need taken in consideration - for me - meaning I need to stay at the lower end of the calorie requirements from my bariatric plan just to stay at goal weight.
I would ask the dietician/nutritionist at your bariatric surgeon office for specific information. Just my thoughts.
