PBS Documentary about friends having WLS
I really enjoyed this doc. Keep in mind the topic of the documentary is the women and their relationships so that's probably why it didn't delve too much into the nitty-gritty of WLS. I think what it was trying to touch on was, for women who define themselves as "fat girls" what happens when they aren't fat anymore? Fat acceptance is great for self-esteem, but it must be a bit of a double-edged sword. These women fought back against being defined by their size by society by celebrating it and building a life around it. It is only natural then, to experience something of a loss of identity when it goes away. Many of the friendships were built on the mutual experience of morbid obesity. That one couple's marriage was based on the wife's morbid obesity. When the MO went away, the relationships crumbled because the foundation was gone. I found it very moving and eye-opening.
