Hi OH Friends,

I gave up on the weekend posts since they got no traction :)  I hope you all had a nice weekend!  Here in DC it was quite nice, and now today is a gloomy, rainy Monday!  Oh well, more incentive to just work today and then go to the gym :)

I made a pretty tasty recipe in the crockpot yesterday (recipe all the way at the bottom) so you will be seeing that in my meals quite a bit this week lol.

I had support group this weekend (it's the first Saturday of every month).  There were maybe 8 post-ops and 30 or so pre-ops.  98% of the pre-ops were going for the sleeve.  I think they see RNY as this SUPER invasive CRAZY surgery that involves REROUTING your intestines.  It's bizarre to me - because while I think each surgery has its pros and cons, for people with diabetes and GERD and a lot of weight to lose (for example), RNY could be a great option.  It seems to be being phased out in popularity.  I made sure to explain my easy surgery, quick recovery, and how much weight I have lost...so hopefully people don't villainize what has been the best thing I have ever done in my life :)

Time Since Surgery: 4 months in a week

B: Egg whites, a slice of cheese, 2 turkey bacon and coffee :)

L: Chicken crockpot meal (recipe below)

D: Chicken crockpot meal

V: This reminded me!  Taking now!

E: 35 minutes treadmill, 25 minutes strength training after work

W: None yet - does coffee count?  LOL

Recipe: Easy low-carb crockpot chicken.  Now, this is not organic by any means, but I had 3 chicken breasts in the freezer and I came across this recipe online.  It's super easy, and a bit salty but pretty tasty!

In the crockpot, combine:

1 10.75 can of 98% fat free cream of chicken soup

1 16oz container of Greek yogurt (it calls for sour cream but I used Fage 2% yogurt)

1 4oz can of green chilies

1 packet of Lipton dry onion soup mix

Stir it up, add 1.5 lbs of chicken and cover the chicken with the goop, and heat for 7-9 hours on low.  I actually did low for 6 hours, the chicken was SUPER tender and appeared to be cooked, so I put it on high for 30 minutes and then ate it.  Like I said, it was a bit salty but good!  I made 7 portions out of it and each has 220 calories, 3 g of fat, 13 g carbs, 30 g protein!

What's on your menu, today?

“Let someone love you just the way you are – as flawed as you might be, as unattractive as you sometimes feel, and as unaccomplished as you think you are. To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.”― Marc Hack

Wow, DCgirl congrats on your loss so far!  You are doing AWESOME!  I have an aunt who is being pushed into WLS for very serious health reasons and long story short she's been misinformed about RNY in a big way.  Friends & Family are pushing her towards the sleeve as well and saying it's b/c of the recovery and complications with RNY.  But, I've had a very easy recovery and no major complications, so I hate how much RNY is being villified.  I should add the surgeon she was reffered to (by a total coincidence) was my surgeon and I think he's great.  He does both the sleeve and RNY, but is recommending RNY for her, but she's totally afraid of it.  I'm not sure how/why RNY got this bad stigma?

Time since surgery 2.5 months

B - Greek yogurt w/ Chia seeds & Starbucks decaf skinny vanilla latte

L - Premier Protein Shake

D - 1/4 of Chipotle steak bowl (I have to say a minor NSV for me this weekend was going to chipotle with friend and only being able to eat a 1/4 of my bowl....seriously pre-surgery I ate the whole thing without even batting an eye, plus chips and guacamole, so I love that such a small portion is so satisfying and that the $6 bowl is now 4 meals).  Stuff like that still kind of blows my mind.

W - On track

E - lunch time walk for 1 hr

V - on track

Totals: Cals - 639; Carbs - 55 (higher than I like, but I'm not going to sweat it today); Protein - 73

Have a great week everyone!

Hey Dodgergirl!  AMEN on the vilification!  It's crazy, right?  This whole room was for whatever reason all going for the sleeve.  I think the sleeve is awesome and obviously a ton of people have success on it, but I personally needed the malabsorption as well.  I had a long discussion with my PCP about which would be best for me and she felt like I could get to 220 with the sleeve and 170 with RNY.  So heyyyy here I am with RNY and loving it :)  I am sorry your aunt is misinformed! I make sure to tell everyone I had RNY and they are all seeing how good I am doing so hopefully I am giving it a good rap :)

And thanks for the compliment - I think my loss since day 1 of my two week liquid pre-op diet is exciting too!  I think it's 80% diet and 20% exercise.  I know the next 100 are not going to come off in 4 months so I am adjusting my mindset!

And I TOTALLY used to eat a burrito bowl (including tons of rice) plus chips and guac for a meal!  And now it's 4 meals as well (no beans, no rice, no corn, no chips) :)  It's an awesome feeling.  I love their green salsa.  I would put it on everything if I could!

Your Food Diary For: 6 weeks today!  I missed my goal of being down 40lbs by today, but tomorrow is a new day and I am currently at 38.3.  I  am very excited that I am moving down in clothing sizes!  Today I decided that I wasn't going wear anything that didn't fit so I went digging in to my clothing storage box in the next size down!  Yippee they fit!! Problem its all summer clothes! It is currently 50 degrees outside and I am wearing a tank top and shorts!  LOL!!!  I feel like I should drop my calorie intake to 600 but I can't seem to get there and get my protein in....hmmm.

Hey Darkwingdc!  Welcome to the post :)  Do you live in DC?  I am SO impressed that you are starting early!  I did the opposite, having a million "last meals" before surgery.  Now I see the HUGE error in my ways since I can still eat many of the things I was binging on, and the things I can't eat (pizza, pasta), I don't really miss because I feel so AMAZING.  May 6 is less than one month away - how exciting for you!!!!  This is honestly the best thing I have ever done.  The liquid diet will suck (both before and after) but it gets your head in the game and as you lose weight you get that instant gratification.  So stick with it!

And your exercise is amazing - did you go 7.5 miles in 25 minutes?  You must have been sweating buckets.  AWESOME JOB!

It's seriously awesome of you to show this dedication pre-op and keep it up!  Post with us daily :)
