If all else fails contact your state's insurance commissioner. They can help sort it out and most likely assign you an ombudsmen to be your advocate.

I got a $5,000 bill. I almost crapped my pants. I got my OOP from the surgeon before surgery, but apparently did not fully understand that weight loss surgery did not count towards my out of pocket limit. So, I am out about $6,000 total. Totally worth it to me, although it will take me a very long time to pay off :( This admittedly is my fault for not completely understanding what the insurance company sent me. I should have asked more questions.

Good luck!

Insurance companies can get awful. We pay to have this insurance, and they make us do all kinds of things to get qualified, then the do this. I think it is terrible how the treat people sometimes.

I had blue cross blue shield of texas at the time of surgery and my final bill was $132. I don't know what I would have done if insurance had decided to play these games with me!! OMG I hope you get it all straightened out!
