What's on the menu today, RNYers?
"Shark week"...bwahahaha! I love that euphemism.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
I generally keep carbs below 30. Definitely consult with your NUT, but you don't necessarily need carbs for energy. Here's a good post by Dr. Michael Eades on Metabolism and Ketosis that explains more, including why it's so important to keep protein levels up.

Right? I hadn't heard this particular euphemism until recently when a friend used it and it took me a minute to figure it out and then I loved it LOL.
I've bookmarked the article you mentioned and will read it after work - thanks so much!

AnnyBananny, sorry you are under the weather.
“Let someone love you just the way you are – as flawed as you might be, as unattractive as you sometimes feel, and as unaccomplished as you think you are. To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.”― Marc Hack

Ahhhh you are starting your "journey" (it's weird that everyone refers to it as a journey but it really is). Like you, I had a lot to lose and really wasn't convinced I could do it. Would this be successful for me? Would it work? Would I gain it all back? My pre-op diet was liquids for 2 weeks. Day 1 I had a headache and didn't know how i would make it through! It got progressively better as the days went on, but I was hungry for that entire two weeks. I counted the minutes to another protein shake. Now I am so thankful for my two week liquid pre-op diet because it really got my head in the game as to how I would be eating post-op. I had surgery December 16th and didn't have food (soft food****il New Year's Eve. So I refer to December as "the month I didn't chew" lol.
Pre-op it's hard to live on 1,200 calories of liquids a day, but in the weeks after surgery you will be living on 400 calories a day. Having that small stomach makes such a difference. So just know that physically it is SO much easier after surgery.
The head hunger is what you have to work on. Because even post-op you will feel "hungry" but it's potentially because you used food as an emotional crutch. Many of us ate to relieve boredom, sadness, etc. You won't have that possibility after surgery. I would recommend using MyFitnessPal to track every bite if you aren't already. I am eawilson21 if you want to request me.
For me, the mental aspect is way harder than the physical. This is not easy. Your physical hunger will be greatly greatly diminished, which is how WLS is the tool to get you to your goal. Just be prepared to find new things to do with your time and ways to cope with emotions.
I am so excited for you - knowing how good I feel in 4 months I am wishing the same for you! I find coming to OH every day helps me to feel a. not alone and b. inspired and c. accountable.
We're here for you :) Em
WELCOME! WOW! Jump in and be proactive. Tracking from the beginning. Not a slacker. LOL! I am happy for you. If you need anything just ask. We will answer or find the answer. I look forward to working with you as you embark on your journey of weight loss. Good luck friend! The only advice I have for you right now is to exercise, drink your water, get your protein in and take your vitamins daily.
