What's on the menu today, RNYers?

Hi OH friends,

Well, I highlighted my hair last night and there is still some attached to my head :)  My stylist actually didn't think my hair loss is out of control.  The fact that my clothes look like a blonde afghan dog laid on them tells me otherwise :)

VERY exciting for me - tomorrow a charity is coming over to pick up my (so far) 12 kitchen trash bags of clothes!!!  I am so happy someone else will be able to use them.  My closet is EMPTY.  My front hallway will seem so spacious once I get these out of here!  Why the pic below is upside down is beyond me.  I swear, I work for a tech company, but this site is something else...

Thanks also for the votes of confidence about my ability to do well on my 12 day business trip.  I know I am not going to drink or eat carbs...I am most concerned about protein.  I have 3 packets of tuna, 5 protein bars, 5 protein shakes, and some Syntrax nectar packets.  Not to mention 3 workout outfits.  I am gonna do this!

Time Since Surgery: 4 months, 9 days

B: One cup of coffee, 2 scoops of Click mocha (despite using a blender bottle and ball, it's rather chunky.  Ugh)

L: Tuna with onions and light mayo, with a piece of colby jack melted on top

D: Eating out, after I get a pedicure, so not sure

Totals are 400 calories and 42 g of protein without dinner, so I am sure I will do well today

E: Personal training 25 minutes, 35 minutes treadmill

W: Not a problem

V: I can feel my passion for vitamins waning and I KNOW I have to get onto a regimen!

What's on your menu today?  Em

Morning Em!

Yes, you'll do great on your trip. You're prepared, mentally and otherwise, and you know what you need to do. I admire your resolve my friend! You know what the rewards are, so I know you've got your eye on the prize. Just think how thrilled you'll be when you get back from your trip and you will have lost weight while traveling! You got this!

Some lucky women will be so happy to get those clothes. Your loss is both your gain and theirs as well.

About the vitamins, do you have daily boxes that you fill up in advance? I've found that to be key. I just tuck my box into my purse and I have them handy all day long to take what I need, although except for morning and night time it's really just about the calcium pills. I picked up a week's worth of pill organizers from Walgreen's, and they've made all the difference. The ones I use have three slots, but they're big enough to hold my horse pill multivitamins and ten calcium "petites" plus everything else.

Pam, will you come cook for me?  Your meals always sound so delicious.  All of your homemade sauces and stir frys!  Your husbeast is a lucky man!  I want a personal chef :)

Funny, I was going to ask you to cook for us Emily!

Ha! I love cooking for people. Part of my weight problem is from having grown up in an Italian/Polish household, where food equaled love. Both grandmas insisted on clean plates, even for the seconds they made sure you got! And my Aunt Sophie's pierogies...Grandma Millie's Sunday gravy (known to non-Italians as "spaghetti sauce") on pasta... So I grew up to be a foodie with a love of cooking, except I love cooking all the "wrong" things. Homemade pasta, pizzas, baking. The works. And the cookbooks...I'm a huge fan of Cook's Country/America's Test Kitchen, and no matter how complicated the process I love making their recipes! When I moved into this house with my husband, I was dismayed to find out that the kitchen was tiny. So I cleared out the breakfast area, installed a couple of chef's racks, and voila! Room for all my equipment, gadgets and pots and pans.

The surgery and the lifestyle changes that have had to go along with it have meant a sea change in my cooking style. I'm slowly getting back into the groove, but now I have to rework recipes and concepts to make them WLS friendly. I can't spend hours at the stove or around food anymore, so recipes need to be quicker and simpler to prepare. It's kind of daunting, but challenging in a good way. Once I get a better handle on it all, I'll be happy to cook for you someday.
