What's on the menu today, RNYers?
I think the cuteness of that shirt plus my struggle to find something to wear this morning has clinched my need for Gwynnie Bee! You are rockin' that peplum and I love it!
Not crazy about my menu today, feel like it's not enough protein from "real" food (ok I'm at 96grams, but that include 2 shakes and a scoop of unflavored protein powder). Now that I've cut back to two shakes a day, I know I'm going to need to make better protein choices when it comes to my foods, so I've made a grocery list and picked a few new recipes to try over the next week or so.
Today I'm also trying out a tip someone mentioned a while back, I think Poet Kelly, about how she would put a scoop of unflavored protein powder in a little bowl on her counter at the beginning of the day and mix a pinch of it into basically anything she could throughout the day and by the end of the day she had gotten some nice extra protein numbers. I put a pinch in my greek yogurt this morning and will pinch some more throughout the day.
Time since surgery: 8 weeks
B: 2oz Light & Fit Greek yogurt, 1 Morningstar Farms maple "sausage" pattie
S: 12oz Nectar Lemon Tea protein shake
L: egg salad made from 1 hard boilded egg - about 1.5oz , 2oz steamed veggies
S: string cheese pre-gym
D: 2 turkey ricotta meatballs, 1/4 cup tomato sauce, 1 tbps Parmesan cheese
S: 12oz Nectar Lemon Tea protein shake
+1 scoop unflavor protein powder mixed into various things through the day
TOTALS: Calories 669 (higher than I'd like to be), Protein 96, Carbs 24, Fat 23
V: started
W: having trouble getting as much in as I'd like, getting about 64oz, but want to be closer to 80, must work on this.
E: going to the gym tonight, elliptical is my drug of choice right now - also going to spy on the Thursday nigh****er aerobics class, the description sounds more intense than the Tuesday night class, so I want to check it out before actually trying it
Yesterday I walked in the morning with my colleague and went to the gym in the evening. By the time work was done for the day I really didn't want to go to the gym and I almost didn't. I kept telling myself that I had walked in the morning, that was good enough - but then I decided to get my butt in gear and do it. I had planned on doing both and I don't want to start allowing myself to make excuses, especially this early out, so I tied up those sneakers and went. I did, however, let myself do only 20 minutes on the elliptical instead of 30, but then I walked a little on the track and spied on the yoga class happening and the Latin Groove to see what they were like. Conveniently the studios have big windows that the track passes by so it was nice to see what they were like - neither looked as intimidating as I had imagined (though I don't think Latin Groove is for me LOL).
Emily, I think at some point in yesterday's thread you mentioned that your NUT doesn't have you wait post-drinking to eat? My 5-year post-RNY friend told me when I saw her last weekend that a lot of programs are moving to that model and I'm intrigued. I definitely think if I could cut out that waiting time I would be able to get more liquids in more easily. I think it might be worth a call to my NUT to see her take on it.

Anny - don'****ch tonight's water aerobics class - jump in! I sometimes go to classes and I am clearly the slowest/least fit...but you will be underwater so no one will even know if you are keeping up :) I bet it will be great and you love water aerobics! That's so awesome you went to the gym last night even when you contemplated not going. I know that happens to me sometimes. I am going five times this week and I already thought, well maybe I won't go tomorrow and that will still put me at four times this week. But nope, I am gonna drag my sorry a$$ there! That's awesome. I don't know Latin Groove but I am a bumbling idiot at Zumba, to my despair.
I can ask my NUT again next week but she has never told me to stop drinking before meals. I never ever ever drink during a meal or for 30-45 mins after but hey, if I drink right up until my meal, I figure most drains out and if it doesn't well then maybe I will just eat a little less :)
It's funny that you think 96 g of protein is low - I think I have made that number twice in five months! You are doing great.
PS The secret to looking good (for my body shape) is black pants, a peplum top, and a pointy toed shoe to elongate the legs! Seriously, the peplum makes me look hourglass instead of just fat lol. Thank god it's in season for the second year. And I swear I don't only wear black - it just seems like the pics I post here are always in black clothes!
I know you're right about the water aerobics, how intense can water aerobics really be? I mean, they do have some scary triathlon training water aerobics class, but that's at like 5am, so clearly I would never accidentally stumble upon it.
No idea what Latin Groove is either, but it had a really intense instructor who seemed to be yelling both times I walked by, so I wasn't so excited about that.

Emily, that top is so cute! Love GB. Your waist looks so small! Anny great job on making yourself get to the gym. One thing I've learned so far in this process (that for some reason didn't compute pre-surgery) is that even small amounts of activity/exercise really add up. Even if I only do 1/2 the workout I planned, at least I did something. Where before surgery I had this all or nothing mentality and more often than not, it was nothing, lol :)
I had a mini NSV today as well. I bought these blue pants from Old Navy (I like old navy for pants right now b/c they are 1. cheap and 2. have a tall dept which is a must for me) and I fit into a 14 today. Granted its an old navy 14, so this isn't my new size, but still, I can't believe they fit. When I took them out of the package I thought for sure they'd be too small and they fit perfect. So that was exciting. My one pair of 14's, but I'm going to wear the hell out of them :)
Time since surgery: 3 months and 3 weeks
B - Chia Pod pudding
L - Premier Protein Shake
S - 100 Cal walnut pack
D - Salmon and grilled veggies
V - On track
W - On track
E - 30 Day Shred and hopefully 30 min of Zumba
Have a great day everyone! And to every one battling the flu/cold/etc. I hope you feel better soon!
Size 14!!! SO AWESOME! OMG and you are so recently RNYed. Imagine where you will be a year from now! You should definitely wear the hell out of those pants! Old Navy pants for some reason start ok in the morning and by the end of the day I have saggy diaper butt that I have to hike up constantly. Do you wear a belt? A belt does NOTHIN' for me, sadly...other than give me major muffin top.
I am with you on the all or nothing. Doing something at the gym is definitely better than nothing. I was planning to walk 3 miles on the treadmill last night, but after 10 minutes my ex-trainer came over and said her client didn't show and would I like her to train me? I was like UMMM YEAH! So I did 30 minutes with her. Didn't get my steps in but I felt ok about it. It may have been only 40 mins, but like you said, that's better than nothing, right?
I haven't seen 100 calorie walnut packs! That sounds pretty delicious.
Yeah, some of the old navy pants get pretty saggy on me by days end too (then I end up over washing them to shrink them and they fade too quickly). That's why I figured I'd try the smaller size (b/c the 16 was getting so baggy). I'll let you know tomorrow how they held up throughout the day. My hope is sizing down in Old Navy will do the trick. It's so hard b/c I have a short torso and long legs, so I have to buy "tall" for all of my pants, and that tends to be expensive. So, my fingers are really crossed that sizing down in old navy will be the secret to my success until I get to goal weight. I don't wear belts, but honestly it's b/c they didnt' fit before, lol :) I should try and see if I can find one now, that might be a good solution. Thanks for the tip.
Congrats on rocking your workouts! I'm so impressed and they are clearly paying off.
YA 14s! You're so right about the gym - going and doing something is the most important part.
What is Chia Pod pudding?!

It's something I bought at Sprouts (and prob. won't buy again, it was good but the carbs were high relative to the protein). Anyways it's chia seeds in coconut milk with cinnamon and vanilla, no preservatives, sugar, etc. I'm loving Chia seeds post surgery, they really fill me up and I think it helps to get those extra omega's in. I think b/c we eat so little now I try and be really conscious about making nutritionally dense food choices and Chia seeds are easy to get in. That being said, I just threw this in my cart when I saw it w/o checking out the label and after reading the label this morning I realized it's not something I should repurchase until maintenance. It was 13 carbs and only 4 g protein :( So, long answer longer, it was yummy but not something I recommend.
Interesting! I've been nervous to try Chia Seeds, but I do see a lot of folks on here enjoy them. I know I need to work on making more nutritionally dense food choices, not that my choices are bad per say, but I think they could be even better!
