Any ideas to take/eat for Memorial Day cookouts?
Thanks so much. I will make that tomorrow to take with us!! It sounds really yummy!!
Sugar free pickles, veggies in general.
Early on I would carry a nice protein pbar in my purse (like power crunch) to have when everyone else had their desserts. Unfortunately - rather quickly I found out that some of my friends and family expected me to share my protein bar (can I have a bite to try??? - yea - the whole thing was like 5 bites anyway) so I learned to have more than one, or .... try to eat that in a very discrete way.
Easy for me desserts were fruit salad (mostly berries) with no sugar added - but with a whip cream.. Bunch of strawberries brought to a cookout and a can or 2 of whipped cream was a great addition to any cookout.. (I also learned to make sure and reserve some of that for me before the crowd devoured the rest).

People complimented me on a salad mixture of chopped apple, walnuts, and vanilla greek yogurt with cinnamon lightly sprinkled on top of mixture. Warning: mix together just before serving to keep the walnuts from getting soggy, the yogurt from getting runny and the apples staying bright/crunchy. Happy Holiday.
Where do you guys find most of your menu ideas?? it was all sounding AMAZING.. I SUCK at the food part of things.. so I tend to eat the SAME thing alot.. and it is getting to the point I cannot stand to even LOOK at some things. I had to toss my cottage cheese. I had been eating so much of it since surgery, I now get the foamies from it.. I can even stand it. I promised myself this weekend, is my weekend to go looking for food ideas..
Try The World According To Eggface, or Bariatric Foodie for recipes and meal ideas. You can also browse on Paleo websites, many of the Paleo recipes out there are acceptable for WLS folks or may just need a little tweaking to get them there. I'd also recommend that you look into the daily What's On Your Menu Today RNYers? thread that's posted in this forum. People share their daily meal plans, recipes and menu ideas, and many folks find it a good place to get new ideas and inspiration from. Also, don't discount regular recipe sites. If you're a cook, you can look up a recipe and see what you need to do to it to make it WLS-friendly. I've modified quite a few recipes to make them acceptable on my new meal plan.
Good luck!
