Pulling Sensation, dent in stomach 7 days post op RNY

Hi everyone!  Well I am so excited to report that I am 7 days post op from RNY Gastric Bypass and I am so happy with finally getting pouched! I am not in excruciating and the pain that I do have is manageable.

However, I did notice after surgery that I have a dent or dimple or divot where my largest incision is at.  I have 5 incision sites, and only 1 is kinda caving in.   I asked my doctor and he said the other incisions are just skin stitches but this one is internally stitched (muscles stitched together) as this is where most of the moving around was performed.  He assured me that it's normal and the dent will flatten out; and honestly I trust him whole heartedly.

My question is, has anyone else here dealt with the same thing?  The pain from the "dent" is felt when lifting from bed, sitting down on the toilet, or times when I have to use my stomach muscles (getting up or down).  The easiest way I can describe it is a string pulling and tugging at my incision and tightening when using those muscles, either standing up or getting up.  When I look down at my stomach all the other sites are flat and level, it's just that one incision site that pulls inwards and is caved in.  Think.."tufted couch" lol.  any feedback on when to expect the dent to start going away? gradual or all at once?  how about the nagging pain associated with it?  Any personal experiences with it?  It's just nice to hear other people's stories and experiences and it helps me mentally prepare for what to expect.

Thanks guys :)

Yep, that one incision hurt more than the others and took the longest to heal. I can't remember exactly, but I will say maybe 4 - 5 weeks before I didn't feel it anymore.

Oh yeah, the dent lasted quite a while before it flattened out. All normal!

Definitely! My largest incision is just above my belly button the left side and definitely had a dent, I joked that it looked like I had 2 belly buttons for a while. My surgeon promised me it would all even out and it mostly has, but at 10 weeks post-op I still do have a little bit of a dent around that incision, though I assume as I lose more weight my surgeon will prove correct.

I also did experience more pain, very similar to what you're describing, in that area. It last a little longer in that area and even at 6 weeks when I started to up my exercise I would get a twinge or two there, but don't seem to anymore.

oh thats good.  Yeah it looks like two belly buttons! lol.  But it has been less deep since the day after surgery.  I can take up to 6 weeks off work (paid, thank God!)...so i'm wondering if I will need to take the full 6 weeks if the pain is still a little there...I think I'm gonna take advantage and take all 6 weeks hahah! Other than that tugging from the inside, I can't say I'm in any other pain!

Everyone is different obviously, but I ended up taking 2 full weeks and then worked half days for 2 weeks and was quite happy with how that worked out. I also had a lot of paid time available, so I didn't want to rush things, but honestly by 2 weeks, I was anxious to get back into real life and see how it would all play out!

Are you sure you didn't spring for the additional option, the Tufted Tummy?

Seriously, though, it should definitely even out over time. That's where most of the instruments go in and the surgeon does his thing, so you'll feel a lot more sensation under that one.
