Old age and losing taste buds...
Sorry, I'll need to share what I'm "NOT" talking about...Before I explain what I am talking about. I know taste buds change post RNY. Things like bitter and sweet are more intense. I understand and get that...I'm many years post op. Also what I am not talking about is medical conditions such as virus, diseases, medications you are taking that could cause a change in taste.
What I'm asking is that people's tastes become reduced with age (in general...For the general population, WLS or no WLS). For those of you who are older, when did you notice the effect of this in your life? When did you start losing some of your tastes? Did bitter foods become less bitter?? Did sweet foods become less sweet? Yeah, I know it becomes more intense with taste post op...But over the years did you lose some tastes? Thanks, Brian
Vitamins or minerals deficiencies may cause that.
My 88 year old friend does not have issue with taste. My BF father - over 70 can taste great.. So are my other older friends.
How is your zinc? B12, C? And so on..

Funny. I see your point, but it's different from my take on it.
I've never thought cabbage had much flavor when I was young, but now I've learned how to season it. I still don't like liver, but my sister has liked it since she was a child. To me, I always thought that my tastes got more sensitive as I aged because now I enjoy onions, mushrooms, and cabbage because they actually have flavor now instead of being bland (and slimy).
