SLEEP STUDY!!! Is it really necessary?
I had to have one to meet insurance requirements. I was to the point that I would do anything to have surgery. Like you, I dreaded it. I am severely claustrophobic ....avoid elevators etc. figured something on my head or face would suffocate me. I, like you, slept very well every night. Didn't seem to have any problems. I did snore.
Found out that I did have sleep apnea. Got a C-pap machine in September before surgery in November. I had no problems wearing the face mask every night. The night after surgery, I put the face mask on and couldn't breath.....it seemed to be suffocating me. The surgeon took me off the c-pap that night and I have never used it again.
I have had another sleep study after I lost weight and I don't need the c-pap. I don't have sleep apnea any more.
What I am trying to say is the sleep study really isn't that bad. As the others have stated....more people are sleeping than just you and one technician that is there if you need them. Do what you have to do for YOU !! Good luck !
thank you waysta. thats so helpful. i am so happy for you that you don't need it anymore!

I did what I had to do to have the surgery, as it turned out I have severe sleep apnea I quit breathing 68 times an hour. I showed no signs before hand other. You certainly have the right to say no to the sleep study, but the surgeon also has a right to decline your surgery with out it.
My insurance and my surgeons office both required to have a sleep study done. I did one at home a year ago and it was no big deal. HOWEVER, for WLS I had to stay the night at the sleep center this past Friday.. I did NOT want to do this, but I did what I had to do. the worst part for me was having to be in bed to sleep with EVERYTHING off in the room by 11pm. I usually go to sleep at 3am. I took my sleep meds early and I went out before midnight. lol. the absolute worst part for me was the gonk they put in my hair. OMG. im having a heck of a time getting it out. At 6 am they woke me up and said sign this release paper and you can go home. I surely hope I never have to have another one done even though it wasn't that big of a deal.

You are right but I feel like they can force me by saying that if I don't do it, no surgery. :(
