Birthday cake?
There are lots of reasons people care if they can have cake or ice cream. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have a piece of birthday cake once a year or an occasionally ice cream cone.
And many people are compliant with the band but have to have a revision because they band frequently causes complications and simply does not work for many people.

Yes Poet I know that as I myself have a band and have complication after 10 years, but if look at the OP posting history she was already looking for a revision from the band at less than a year out so to me that throws up red flags.
I was for a long time. but I had problems with the band...thats a long long story of 7 years. You asked why would I care? It was a question. I was curious. I thought this was a place that one could ask questions to people who already know. Not looking to offend anyone. Just a question.
While I agree with the others that you have to be careful with it, I also understand the feelings you are having.
Things have gotten way sweeter for me post surgery. And while I do not dump, I do not feel the best and too much sugar has always caused me to have an upset stomach. But I too felt the same way and honestly, had I known years ago, that I would be able to eat a piece of cake after WLS, then I probably would have done it 10 yrs ago. Yes, for me, it was a huge mental block to have the thought that I would never be able to be "normal" again.
But due to the changes in taste, I cannot have more than a small taste, because it is way too sweet (and this is a person that would eat frosting out of the can). But I do like that I can have it if I really want it, I just do not really want it anymore.
Also, I had been diagnosed as a diabetic and on orals a bit over a year prior to surgery. At my 3 month visit my A1C had gone from over 7 to 5.5. Now, if I eat more carbs than I should, my sugar starts to bottom out, so for all those reasons, I choose to abstain, but for me it is not the end forever either.
This post has been very helpful. It is really great to know that I am not the only one sometimes! I really hope that is what happens with me as well. I want to NOT WANT it! I want it to taste TOO SWEET and that I won't like it. I don't like mushrooms. If someone offers me some it is super easy to say, no thanks! I hope the same will be true for sweets. :)
Yes, you'll be able to eat cake and ice cream. About 30% of RNY folks get dumping syndrome if they eat too much sugar, so you might feel very ill if you eat too much cake or ice cream. But most folks can eat it with no problem. Obviously if you eat a lot of cake or ice cream, you may not get the weight loss results you want.
I generally eat no sugar added ice cream if I want ice cream and I don't eat it often. Same with cake.

I eat a few bites but I don't care about it anymore. I don't eat ice cream as it makes me dump. If I want ice cream I get fruit juice bars instead, those I can tolerate. As for cake we have cupcakes at work for birthdays, I can't eat a whole one. But it's not a big deal anymore. Usually knowing I am going to get sick makes me avoid even touching cake.
I was thinking the amount I would allow myself would be equal to half a cupcake. just a taste. just a coupe bites...and only on a RARE occasion. I am NOT a big cake person before surgery, I was kinda just wondering about it. Thanks for the info
At three years out, I can eat a bit of cake without an issue. Ice cream though kills me. Just kills me. After you have hit goal and figured out maintenance, you can play with what works for you.

Ten years out and I don't eat cake or ice cream ... Not saying I'm perfect, but I honestly don't miss them at all!
I was very compliant during my weight loss time and it's probably why I lost all my excess weight in six months and why I never struggled either with food or getting rid of the weight during that time.
We all make our choices when we have the surgery, and it's up to us all to decide how badly we want either the food and/or the success because for some it really can be either/or!
