Hi I am new and getting ready for RNY surgery soon
ok, here goes:
1. Follow your drs. orders and food plan to a T.
2. The preop liquid diet will suck, but stick with it.
3. Surgery is short, hopefully.
4. Post op, walk, walk, walk.
5. Yes, you will be uncomfortable for a few days. Take your meds, walk walk walk, sip sip sip.
6. Don't worry if you are not getting in all your protein and liquids right away. Important to say hydrated.
7. Stay off the scale for the first couple of weeks. Most of us gain a bit due to IV fluids during the hospital stay.
8. Be patient.
9. Rest. Be good to yourself
10. Stick to what the dr says post op, most likely liquids.
11. And don't ask "when can I have pizza or ice cream or when Can I eat normal foods again? Don't go there.....yet.....
12. You will be sore and may not be able to sleep on left side for a week or so.
I'm sure others will have points as well. Good Luck.
Hi there...I had r.n.y. on June 17 2013. Best decision I ever made. First couple days I felt really bad but as time went on I felt better each week. Hair thins out some, but they say it grows back. I'm loving clothes.. life is grand. Now 1 yr. 3 months later I lost so far 127 lbs. And went from size 26 to size 14. Have a great journey. :-)

Hello!
I'm sort of near where you are now. I'm almost at the end of my lifestyle classes, the last is Oct. 7th. Then I wait for the insurance.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful insightful advise. I have read and searched and talked to others for over a year now. I have never had any type of operation or procedure other than a scope in my life. I have had children but I guess I have been lucky. Just fear of the unknown and wanting all the advice I can get. Thank you all so much.
Kim
