5 Weeks Post-Op & Down 31lbs!

Hi Everyone! I had RNY 5 weeks ago, and per my plan i should be able to eat a 1/2 cup of food per meal. Today for the first time, for lunch and dinner, I was able to eat the 1/2 over a 20 minute period. I'm worried that this is not normal, that I shouldn't be able to eat that much food so soon. I don't drink 30 minutes before or for an hour after. I also don't feel hunger or fullness. Well sometimes I feel the fullness, like in the morning after a couple of bites of food. Any advice on this?

On another note, I'm down about 31lbs, and have reached my first stall LOL. I was expecting it so i'm not worried about it. I was Type 2 diabetic and PCOS, and before the surgery my A1C was a 9.4!! with normal glucose readings around the high 200's and that was on medication. now it doesn't get higher than 150 with a fluke exception of last night when it was 197 for some reason. I had my A1C checked two weeks after surgery and it was around 8.1 so it's dropping and i'm assuming that isn't going to be instant, but at least my sugar ranges are normal. My B1 levels were low too so now that i'm on B1 that may help the a1c.

I haven't vomited yet, but milk of mag has become my new best friend. :( I've learned my body can no longer handle greek yogurt which is a major bummer because it was my favorite. I'm actually learning a lot about my body, and how I feel about myself in general. This process has certainly not been easy, and I still have bouts of regret and depression but when I think of how I no longer have neuropathy in my feet and legs and how i'm starting to have more energy and feel clothes start to slip off, it snaps me out of it and i remember that my health is the end goal and i deserve it.

I'm so happy there is so much support out there for all of us, and so much to learn as i go about the new bari-life. :) I hope that I can begin to help some newbies the way so many of you helped answer my questions and give words of encouragement.

Starting a new journey to a new healthy life! ~ashley

RNY on 11/10/14

Way to go! Sounds look you are doing fantastic! I understand the depression bit. I battled that a lot the first 6 weeks or so after vsg. Not looking forward to that again with RNY revision. Maybe it won't be as bad since I know what to expect idk. But good for you for having a great attitude!!

Hi! I had surgery around the same time as you...28 Aug. I've struggled with eating enough and not knowing when I'm "full". I've come to learn that when I start to burp and/or hiccup, I'm done. In fact, I should probably have been done one bite before that!   I don't feel hunger at all...I eat on a schedule, otherwise I'd probably just not eat at all. Too bad about the Greek yogurt -- I didn't much care for yogurt before surgery, but now Dannon Light and Fit Greek has become one of my staple foods.

I also have had times of regret and depression, and it always helps to reach out to people here for support. I find that everyone here has been through something similar and it is really good to know that I'm not alone in all this. Overall, though, I'm happy I did this and looking forward to more weight loss and improved health as time goes by.

Have you tried Miralax instead of Milk of Mag? It goes down MUCH easier -- I put it in Crystal Light and can't even taste it. And it works great!

Hugs to you!

I was on liquids for 2 weeks, then pureed food for 2 weeks, and am now on soft food for 3 weeks. I don't find "soft" foods to be much different than pureed, except I'm trying to gradually expand my range of foods..
