Good point. I saw the rny surgeon last week. He avoided my pain relief question. He talked prevention with the Carafate and protonix. Because I take Xarelto for afib he is super concerned about a bleeding ulcer. Me too. However if and when the pain hits...it is debilitating.

Avoid food like tomatoes, ketchup, anything spicy or acidic with meals. The vinegar thing works but if you also take carafate leave a half hour in between the two or the carafate wont work. If you MUST take asprin or other meds like that, leave at least and hour between them and the carafate and a meal so that the pouch is fully coated and sealed before taking them. Lemon juice and ginsing tea also seems to help. Good luck

I would avoid alcoholic beverages especially if a person has ulcers, because it can increase the risk of bleeding and make it harder to repair an ulcer

Milk and things like that help my ulcer - coat the stomach. The carafate helps me though. So does the Prevacid that I take daily. I'd call the doc and have he/she check it out.
