I would love to have a cough drop for my scratchy throat.  Are we allowed to have them.  I am three weeks post op.

I have used Halls Sugar Free.  None of the ingredients worried me.   You can always check with your surgeon... But I don't see why not.

Sucking on things like that and chewing gum is usually frowned on early out. Sugar free has sugar alcohols in them and can make you feel sick and God forbid you accident swallow either. Gargle with warm sal****er or drink some tea

I had the same problem and my doctor said sugar free cough drops or altoids. I tried both and prefer the altoids because they help with my nausea as well. Just don't use them all the time but like one here and there should be ok and definitely don't swallow them!

I second the sf Altoids...they also serve well to pop in the mouth to deter food temptations.

Lots of SF options in the regular cough drop aisle... I mean are you gonna pop them like they are going out of style... don't ;) 1 or 2 a day. That shouldn't be an issue for SA's unless you are highly sensitive to them.

Don't swallow them... I don't know about you but I haven't swallowed a cough drop since I was 4 so unless you go to bed with one in your mouth (not advised) you should be good.

I like that spray stuff Chloraseptic comes in SF. Kind of numbs... phenol is the active ingredient I believe.

Warm tea :) if you are limited to decaf right now Rooibos is naturally decaf.

Hope you feel better soon!

My mother would have never given me cough drops at 4 yrs old and if your mother did, I don't know what to say. In addition the op indicated that she is having a hard time getting 300 calories a day on another post. I am guessing she probably is not getting all her fluid it. The SA's may give her issues.

My point is... who swallows a cough drop... or gum for that matter, not many adults. If you need a cough drop have a cough drop just don't swallow it... if it makes you feel like crap... umm spit it out.

Drinking water... that will help for sure.
