Hunger Question

For all the veteran's who've had RNY Gastric Bypass I would like to ask you if you find yourself hungry at all once you adjusted to your new life? With the sleeve one of the side effects is lack of hunger because of the reduction in the Grehlin hormone, is it the same with the RNY?

Thank you,

S.

My surgeon cuts the vagus nerve and tells me that it results in loss of hunger.  I have never again been hungry since surgery in October 2007.

My hunger came back after about nine months. Don't bet on permanent loss of hunger with any surgery. Most VSGers get hunger back as well. Grehlin is not the only hormone responsible for hunger, and it is produced in other places as well.

Would you say your hunger is the same as before the surgery or less? Does scheduled eating help keep it under control?

It's hard to say, because it's been so long now. But things are much more manageable now.

Being obese is like being in debt. You can owe so much money you can never pay it back. Bankruptcy may be the only way out.

You can weigh so much you can never lose enough. Weight loss surgery is like declaring bankruptcy. Both ways you get back to square one, starting with a clean slate. It's a lot easier to keep in control once you have a fresh start.

WOW! That was an awesome way to explain it.  I am already worrying about what will happen a year from now and I can eat more, I am hungry, I want foods I should not have etc.  This was great!  It will all be more management because I will be "out of debt" while trying to handle it.  Thank you so much.

Interesting way to think about it. It's nice to know it's easier to manage too. Thank you for your input.

Out of curiosity I was about the same weight as you were when you had surgery.  I was 307.  How long did it take you to get to 150?  Just wondering.
