No goal weight.....
I am scheduled for my surgery and everyone keeps asking me "What is your goal weight" and honestly I don't have one. I just want to be healthier. I don't want to obsess about a certain number. I would hate to set myself up for failure by giving myself a goal weight and then hitting a plateau before I get there.
Am I crazy for thinking this way ??
I think goals are important. My surgeon never gave goal weights, but his goal is for all of his patients to get below a BMI of 30. I believe all of us can and should aim to achieve that. so maybe shoot for that first and when you get there, you can readjust.
Good luck on your journey.

You are not crazy at all! I could care less about my weight as a number because it has zero importance. it is all about how healthy I am, what meds I am not taking anymore, how much energy I have, how I am moving.......
I actually have a PhD in the area of obesity and BMI, I currently research how useless BMI and weight are for individual clinical use. The number on the scale says nothing of importance, so if you don't need to weigh yourself or have a goal weight then all the power too you!
Now that being said, many people use weight and BMI to "keep them in check" as a reminder to keep fighting the good fight and live healthy and that is great, but too many people give the numbers too much power and obsess over them which is counter productive, I really wish people (doctors included) truly understood what an individuals' weight means.
Goals are important, but not weight based goals, make them health based goals!

I see you have a goal weight on your ticker.
As you know, people with a higher percentage of body fat tend to have a higher BMI (except for body builders which most of us are not). Carrying excess body fat, not muscle, puts us at greater risk for health problems such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke. The BMI chart is just one tool of many to help us manage our health.
For men, I believe a goal of a certain waist size (half your height) is more important than BMI since men tend to carry their weight around their middle which is dangerous to your health.
When people do not have any goal weight, they tend to make excuses for regain. "Well, I am smaller than I was. I don't take as much medication as I used to. etc" I have seen far more regain from people with no goal than from people with a goal to work towards and maintain. Thankfully we all get to choose our own goals including goal weight.

I do not have a goal weight, If I happen to have put one on there it was just randomly throwing a number on, I didn't think my ticker was even activated, I certainly do not see it,
I am not going to argue the ins and outs of BMI, if you use it and it works for you then great.
I guess my only point is that not all people need it and that is not a bad thing.
I just really hate to see people give the numbers too much importance (if god forbid they do not get to goal weight, or if they go up a few lbs one week, it does not mean that person has failed or is doing anything wrong)
