dumping vs steak stuck??!!
I am a couple of years post op and have reactive Hypoglycemia. It is absolutely related to sugar intake but what I discovered is that the only thing that can prevent it is eating the right foods and snacks. Yes, too much sugar will cause a reaction, and for me crackers and peanut butter do the trick to get my sugar levels back up. Dumping is also caused by eating fatty or oily foods or by not eating enough. Your body also doesn't necessarily react the same way to foods so for example, I can't eat pork..like at all. It causes extreme cramping, gas, and I get the foamies, wanting to vomit almost immediately after eating it (that is not dumping). Other times, the dumping has come a couple of hours after eating or almost immediately. Not all reactions are the same and they are not all accompanied by BM but when they are...watch out! Dizziness, heart palpitations, sweats, confusion, irritibility and sometimes cramping and the runs are all signs of dumping. It does take a lot out of you whatever the reaction, but for me the dumping usually lasted about an hour. The food intolerence was much longer...Good luck with everything!
You can also have dumping from too much fat. I have had it before with eating peanut butter. You will have sweaty flashes that make you feel like fever and chills. You will feel completely horrible. I have had mine last for an hour but usually I throw up or have diarrhea. Everyone is different though. Since you are farther out then I am it might have just stayed in your system but took 3 hours to get digested. Not really sure on that part. But your symptoms are definitely dumping. The abdominal pain can be fierce. Be careful and watch your fat content as well as sugar. I definitely don't want to experience again either
Many people have bad reactions to certain fats, but it is not dumping. Dumping is a very particular physiological reaction, and only happens with sugar, not protein or fat. What you call it while you are sick may not make a difference, but they are different things.
Some peanut butters have a lot of sugar in them. Sometimes people react to the sugar, not the fat.

I am very grateful for all of your input! I was on my first vacation in 7 years and a cruise at that!! Food was all around me, but I did really well and am fairly proud of myself, fruit and a few bites of cake may have been the down fall for me or simply not paying enough attention to chewing my steak as I was talking to our dinner 'partners'! Trust me when I say it was a lesson learned.
