revision from VSG to minigastric bypass or sleeve " DUMPING SYNDROME "
My surgery is scheduled next week and i am still weighing down my options between resleeving and mgb.
Iam worried from dumping and i need your feedback , and has anyone down a resleeving i have about 50 kgs to lose i am worried sleeve wont do this for me yet i do not want iron deficiency and dumping syndrome.
Only about 30% of RNY folks get dumping syndrome, and if you stay away from things high in sugar, you'll probably never dump.
Iron deficiency is much more common but if you get your labs done regularly and take iron supplements, you should be OK.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
How much sweet can you eat i mean in life you do not comple 100 percent of the time i know what i should do but i do not want to never be able to eat anything sweety because of that.
And that is why the sleeve did not work for you.
Sorry to bring the bad news. Unless you can change you attitude towards food and sweets, no WLS would offer you looking term with loss. Maintenance is a ***** Look at post of people looking term post opp who post about regain.
I had RNY and i dump. But..so far out - i can eat around it if i choose to. i choose not to do it.
We can outeat any WLS....
Btw - i am also one of few that need iron infusions every Year or 2. my gut can't absorb any iron. And in u years, i tried them all. Even with no period...my body needs additional iron.

The sleeve worked fine for a period of time. But it stretched afterwars 5 times its size . With my slow metabolisim i was stuck with the yo yo dieting again. But my weight loss became very hard and srubborn despite following a healthy diet and exercising i had to eat everyday 1000 calories or less to lose . Some how i could not continue on without seeing the scale moving i became very depressed and frustrated.
Actually i am not the kind of person who is un able to control herself .
I am just scared i know i have a slow metabolisim i know malborption would assist but i am scared , i am scared i may get sicker ..
Valid point about getting sicker.
I had RNY...Now, 7 years post op i deal with a lot of issues that probably are long term side effects from the RNY and multiple surgeries i had after. (Hernias repairs)
I deal with food allergies, abdominal pain, iron deficiency...etc etc..
On top of that - unless i follow a very strict diet - i see weight regain... Not something i was aware of.
I don't want to scare you - but sometimes things go not the way we wish.
I do maintain good weight loss, wearing size 6-8-10. but it is everyday struggle.

Your post was a little disheartening to me. After reading it, " you struggle still to this day with weight loss, abdominal pain, etc" it sounds like you are not better off than a person who has not had their innards rearranged. If that's whats going on 7 years later how possibly is your quality of life better? Being the fact that you still struggle to maintain the size 7' 10 and most likely will the rest of your life? He'll I struggle now and I'm only in the process of preop.

If you don't change your relationship with food WLS won't work for you. Maintaining your weight is a struggle because, as an obese person, we always are battling those old habits that made us gain weight in the first place ( like stress eating, eating when we're bored). Many of us are food addicts and have to approach maintenance just as a drug addict faces sobriety...one day at a time. It's worth the struggle to be healthy. If you are approaching WLS thinking the weight will magically disappear and you won't have to think about it or work hard, you are in for a BIG disappointment.
Hala's medical problems and allergies are not common. Most WLS patients do just fine. There are complications that can happen. Most can be controlled by changing your diet and you can live a great life.

I understand the relationship I have with food is unhealthy hence my weight problem. And I do realize that I need to look at food differently going thru this process, but like an alcoholic time alleviates the struggle to some extent. I would think after 7 years my new relationship with food would be my new normal. Not saying I won't be tempted, but my tastes and views should be somewhat set after that allotted time?
Rocky is right...my personal issues long term postop RNY are not typical...but can happen. I am unlucky example that things can go wrong.
Will they got you? Probably not... But the commitment to proper diet is for life.
I had RNY. I don't know if that caused some of my issues i have now..or my obesity was caused by some of the diagnosed issues...
My age, plus my determination to figure out what is going on brings some answers.
And now i am no longer MO, docs can't blame some of "my issues" on being MO.
