Help - constipation
I have this and developed hernias as a result. This is what I have to do: I put two scoops of benefiber in my morning coffee with full fat half and half. Then, I have two Colace pills with breakfast. I make sure that I have high fiber whole wheat bread or a fiber one bar once a day and an apple with skin. In the evening I take two more Colace pills and two magnesium (500mg each) pills. I make sure that I eat enough full fat cheese--at least one slice a day--and some full fat peanut butter. If I don't have a bm by the evening, then I have a dose of milk of magnesia. I have had zero trouble since I started this regime in November.
The surgeon *****paired my hernias in December told me to never, ever get constipated and he felt that I was limiting fat and fiber too much. Hope you feel much, much better soon!
oh dear. I just experienced it. Three days of WANTING to go but I couldnt.
Here is what works for me:
1) running (the jarring typically shakes something loose). I cant run now due to a knee issue
2) Javita herbal cleanse tea. It has candle bush in it which has a laxative effect. It tastes horrible. Exactly like something your body would throw out.
3) Hot spicy food. Eat the peppers if you can. They have an irritative effect on the g.i tract. Hence, they get hustled on through in a hurry.
Those are my tricks.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
I've noticed everyone has their own method & formula for dealing with constipation but has anyone used prune juice to help move things along?

Since I was 2 months post-op, Ive used 1 to 1.5 doses of Miralax, 3-4 colace and 500mg of magnesium oxide. I had constipation issues before rny. I tried benefiber, high fiber foods and prune juice, none worked.
FYI: Be careful of using 'stimulant' laxatives long term due to the damage they do to bowel causing a dependency. Miralax and colace are not 'stimulant' laxatives.
