cpap machine sucks!
I will be honest with you , I am one of the people that Can't use that thing. I tried for 2 months before my surgery and every night I lost more sleep. I had to bring it with me to the hospital for surgery but I still did not use it. I would not suggest you not to use yours, I am just stating what I did. I have lived without it for 41 yrs and will not use mine. I am going to make a beautiful potted plant out of mine when I have lost all my weight.(just kidding) I wish I had been one of the people that have enjoyed their machine, but I am just being honest. I also bought the nasal air that went in your nose, and also bought a triangle thing that did not suffocate, but ,,,,still failure...Good luck,

You should not adjust the machine yourself; they're sold by prescription.
If the mask doesn't work for you, that's where the main source of discomfort is from. Choose a good mask - my machine is from Respironics.
You can choose from many manufacturers - try many and find one you like. I saw a lot and chose one that did work.
NEXT - some have mentioned "don't have to use it when I've lost the weight".
One of the motivating factors for me getting the machine in the first place was NOT my weight; it was SNORING.
AND, when I was 218 (I'm 6'2" - this was slim), I snored just as badly as I do today (495)
A well adjusted CPAP machine will give you a good night's sleep and it will take care of your snoring. If your machine isn't doing that for you -- then get it adjusted by professionals.

well, its not call a co-mormid becoause it inconvenient or it cause snorring, that would be cosmetic, the the insurance company would not pay 25oo buck for the study, and 1k for the mach, and a new fack mask every 6 months, if was for the fact that sleep apnea can KILL YOU, .
when you have surgery you will be on a resperator, just like you cipap machine that will breath for you, with oxygen, when you have apnea at home, you blood ox2 goes down, your heart races, your breathing races, to make up for your not breathing, blood vessle constrict, because your brain is crying out for more oxygen, repeat this stop and go breathing 6x times a min or 50 time a hour and nite after nite, and your brain gets used living at a 91% 02 level, about the same as a emphsema patient, your brain will say sufficient oxyegen, dont need to breath, so in the recovery room full of o2,you come off the machine, been on narcotics, no machine, your brain says satisfied, so you dont breath, you go into cardiac arrest, or maybe later when your napping . post op,
its a chronic chemical thing, its long term, you should not stop treatment without a sleep study, and a withdrawal process.
In deleware, it is mandatory that your doctor report the dianosis to motorvehical, stop therapy, surender your drivers license. have a cdl and have a sleep study every two years, federal law.
babies can be born witn apnea and some die from it, call sids, I had my apne develope from gerd, before i was obese, from a hiatal hernia.
Boy, do I feel for you. I was on a CPap machine from Dec '04 to April '05 before I had them take it back (my surgery was Feb '05). I never slept good with it. And I ALWAYS took it off when I was asleep. I'd go to sleep with it on and wake up with it in the floor. I never had SEVERE sleep apnea...but my sleep study showed I rarely reached REM sleep without it. Of course, now I have a new dilemma. I was with BCBS of CA and they verbally preauthorized the machine (I had since left that job and now have different insurance). BCBS only paid my Feb '05 claim and just TODAY said they will not pay DEC, JAN, MARCH or APRIL since they feel it was not medically necessary!! WHAT??? It has been a whole year since the first claim (and they paid for one month) and they JUST NOW plan on telling me it was not necessary? I got them a copy of the sleep study and a letter of medical necessity from my 'sleep doc' and they still are not convinced. I plan on contacting my surgeon and seeing if he can help me out with a letter as well. I cannot afford this $1180.84 bill!! Has anyone had this problem?? Do you think I should get a lawyer to help me??
Donna
Hi Donna,
I have almost the same problem. I am returning my machine today because the county switched insurance plans as of Nov 1 and I had no idea this would affect my coverage at the place where I picked up the machine. Who knew? Now I have Empire BCBS and I am guessing that I have to go back to the sleep center who initially set me up with this outfit to find a new place if I decided to pick up another machine. I am glad to know that there are other masks and options to try like pillows. I will ask about them. However, I don't like anything on me when I sleep. I can't stand to have anyone even put their arms around me or on me when I sleep. I like freedom of movement and don't have to worry about rolling over and crunching the hose or pulling it off the night table next to the bed from pulling it. It's a major source of insomnia for me! I was getting so cranky from the lack of sleep I was experiencing that I honestly feel that I am better off without it.
