I really don't see it as mob mentality or a conspiracy theory & I don't think that if multiple people have the same opinion that they're trying to belittle or humiliate the op.

It seems that you think if the same point is made by different people that those people shouldn't express their opinion once the original point has been made. This might help you or the op feel better but it also assumes that the subsequent posters have read everyone else's response. That's not always the case, nor is it that the first person *****sponds is the "leader" of the group. It's not a hive mentality.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that many people can have the same opinion & post about it without it being a take pot shots at the op.

I agree completely! I often post without first reading the responses. That's what makes all of this a little complicated. It's not one person, it's generally not intentional, it's generally without malice.

As I read through them, some jump out as more belittling and snarky. I'm not talking about the race issues - that's its own mess, I'm speaking more about a person getting excited in thinking that they've found a solution and wanting to share it with the group, then getting told that they're wrong, then getting belittled. It's possible that the OP didn't understand correlation vs causation, and the posters providing examples are genuinely trying to be helpful and instructive. It's also possible that they are getting snarky and mean. Either way I don't think it helps.

OP says she has a PhD in nursing, I believe, so correlation and causation should be well-known to her.

I do have a doctorate in nursing (Stanford class of 82) one of the reasons I'm so successful is that I keep an opened mind... that's why I'm NOT working the floor in post op counting the days till I can retire.

The only thing though is that all of that is interpretive. Usually a post goes way left & you gotta sort thru it to figure out what caused the change. What ends up happening is that someone will either delete their post or the thread gets pulled or they deactivate or any combination of the three.

Plus given how the format is, it's easy to start confusing posts because you lose track of who is responding to whom when the thread gets long.

One thing I keep in mind when reading these kind of posts is my interpretation of tone, because that's what it is. My interpretation. You're reading snark & it could be or it might not be. I keep in mind also people's intentions & I personally believe people post with the best intentions in mind but it doesn't always come across that way.

People are who they are. I wouldn't want to change anyone just because I interpret what they say a certain kind of way, but rather just respond & have a dialog. I.E you said this, but I heard this & it made me feel in such n such kind of way. You can get a clarification on the exchange, agree or disagree or just it is what it is kind of thing & both walk away. Hopefully with a clearer understanding of where people are coming from.

Are you F'ing kidding me right now? Really? Are you? I love the way you dance around 50% of the issue and focus on the science.

You wrote: "but cause more harm than help when the group attacks, belittles, humiliates and generally bullies those we should be helping."

So I guess the feeling of this OBVIOUSLY offended "black folk" counts for naught?!?! How about the OP just f'ing APOLOGIZE for her unimaginable lack of tact and shallow thinking.

And really- had this crap worked- I'd have the same luscious head of hair you have. It doesn't work. period.

"Black Folks". What in the blazing hell? Is it 1831? What kind of horse**** racist garbage is that?

As to the complete lack of science, in medieval times people smeared goose **** on their heads for baldness. I suppose that could be just as effective.

If the OP had said something along the lines of, "I found Black Castor Oil in the ethnic hair section and I think it's working" people would have pointed out the lack of scientific evidence but not collectively had a full-body dry heave.
