2 months until Long Beach Marathon

The Long Beach Marathon is 2 months from today. Long Beach 2004 was my first marathon, and so far, my best time wise. I am hoping to improve this time. Until this weekend, I was a little worried that I was going to be able to get the necessary training in due to my broken rib. I managed a 14 miler on Sunday in Phoenix while I was visiting my parents, and while the pace wasn't what I would hope for, I could breath. Today I did an hour on the treadmill at a good pace (for me), and again I am encouraged the marathon will go well. I am really paying attention to my recovery and training during this month since the San Francisco Marathon (7/31/2005) because I only have a month between the Long Beach Marathon then the Valley of Fire Marathon. Worse, I only have two weeks between Valley of Fire and the New Las Vegas Marathon. I may have to only run the Half at Valley of Fire, we'll see. Tek

Tek, WOW - I read your profile and if I remember correctly this is your 4th marathon since your surgery! You are really doing fantastic. I hope that the training goes well for you between now and the marathon and that you heal quickly. I am hoping to run a marathon around this time next year. I am really excited about this goal! It represents so much about this surgery to me -to be able to get out there and do things! Mary 302/202/1??

WOW!! Repeat that about a hundred times over! WOW! How inspiring you are! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and victories! You have accomplished so much! I just reached goal and this Sunday I am doing my second triathlon - sprint distance. It's been an awesome experience training for the tris. I *love* swimming and really enjoy biking but running... well, this is how I put it.. "I don't like running ~ YET!" It's not really my forte, but I have decided to do a 1/2 marathon in November just to tell 'running' who is boss! Perhaps I will grow to love it as much as swimming! Your story encourages me that I just might! Next year I'm going for an olympic distance tri. I'm glad I found this forum. I'm hoping to dig up some infomration on nutrition for the WLS athlete. Take care, Nancy
