Topic: Singing After Surgery
I was surprised to find this board on here! In any fashion, I am quite curious about how the voice will be functioning after surgery. More specifically, I am curious as to how my upper registers will be affected. I am a countertenor and do a good amount of singing in falsetto up to flageolet voice.
Any thoughts out there?

Hi Kim. I just came across your post, and I had to know if you were able to sing after your surgery. I also lead the worship service at my church, and I had to sit down for a few Sundays after I came back. No one seemed to mind. They were just glad I was there.
I usually do a lot of posting on the Christian board here at OH. Maybe I'll see you on there sometime. It's a very active group.

Hi, I'm a singer also and I had my surgery on August 22, 2002... My voice was a little weak right afterwards, but it was mostly because I didn't have good breath support. Since my surgert I have a much better tone to my voice and better breath support, so don't worry about that girl!!! Just keep singing, it'll help with your recovery also!!!

Hey girl...
You're going to try to do this only 3 days after surgery??? YIKES! I wish you luck! I sing also and sang in our Church choir about a week afterwards and did fine, but you'll only be 3 days out and trying to lead for 50 minutes is a long time. Take it easy, make sure to have a seat on stage in case you need it and don't worry about what anyone thinks if you do sit down... ugh! I was pretty weak for about a week afterwards, so don't be surprised if you are too...
I'd ask the doc what they think, but I think I'd pass this year. Singing definately helps with recovery, but 3 days is pretty quick. Just my opinion! Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Hi all!
I am having lap-band on Dec 29th!! I am also the lead vocalist in my praise band at church and we are having a huge New Year's Eve party at church. We are supposed to play and lead worship from 11pm until 11:50 and then we will be having communion and I usually lead communion songs too. Do you think I'll be able to do it???? Kim in Georgia

I'm an alto too! I don't post on this board often.....mostly because it doesn't look like many people come here. But, I LOVE to sing......in groups, not solos! LOL

This is my biggest fear! I have been singing for years, but I am really nervous that after my surgery, my voice will be affected.
Topic: RE: singing is my life.
Hi Christina,
I also love to sing but not alone. 10 years ago ( at a weight of 275) I was introduced to the Fenton Lakes chorus of Sweet Adelines. Sweet Adelines is 4 part barbershop harmony. Are group has every age from 16 to 82, and every size. I was accepted because of my voice not my size. If you go to sweetadlinesint.com you can find a group in your area.
I had my WLS in April,2005, what a difference a little weight loss does. My Pre surgery weight was 292,I'm now down to 205. I can now hold frase endings longer much more breath control and can stand longer without my feet, back and everythings else hurting. And talk about a support group! I have 58 women who give me all the support I could ever need, besides by family.
No matter what never give up singing, it really is a WONDERFUL GIFT FROM GOD.
Louise
