Topic: RE: Calling all singers!
Hi,
I saw your message on the singers board... I've been singing for 20 years.. but this past year I noticed that my cords are bad (Gastric reflux?) and my ability to sustain a note has gone to nothing... I'm hoping against hope that the surgery will fix both problems. Keep me posted .. and good luck to you!!!

Me too--would love to get this board going as well. I've been a singer for 15 years doing regional & community theater. My voice has always been a strong Alto. I noticed recently I can't sustain notes as long as I use to. I'm hoping with the WLS it will help.

Hello I have loved music all my life, and have always loved to sing, I am an ordained Minister (Non Denominational) and My Ministry is in Evangelism and song. I sing Country Gospel, Southern Gospel and like some Contemparary. I don't have as much Musical training as you I was in the Advanced Choir at the High School I attended, and Also took Music Theory, and Music Appreciation, As far as music goes, I love it, I love Classical, Country, Pop Rock, some Metalica, and some Opera. I have been singing Country and Southern Gospel now for about Ten Years. I have had one Cassette Album produced however I learned a good lesson about recording, and the tape was not done in excellant recording quality, I did however manage to write a 50's style gospel song and have it published through BMI Called "Hear Me When I Pray." I enjoy singing and am going to continue and also hoping to record a C.D. in the near future. I love Choir singing and thank God for being aloud to be in the school choir. Good luck on finishing your degree in music

Hello Christina: People who have never had the problem of obesity can fully understand what we go through and how devestating it can be to get in front of people, let alone to speak or sing. I not only had the problem of obesity but I have an extremely wide vocal range, And when I was young was made fun of because my voice is so high. I am a 47 year old male, Happily Married to a wonderful woman and I still have people who say "Yes Mam to me on the phone. THen the issues of weight came in and for a long time I would not sing in front of people because of my voice and my size. I came to the point when I realized that I couldn't let what people said or what they thought about me deture me. I love singing and those of us that can sing realize that it is a gift from God. I have learned to like my voice the way it is because it is what God blessed me with, and most of us here have gone through or are going through some form of WLS surgery which is a step in the right direction. If singing is your life then I would say to you don't stop. When people heard me sing they began to look at the talent that was given instead of my size.... Whether we lose this weight or not we will still be the same person and we have to start doing what we feel right for ourselves and not what others think or say. Start singing again practice everyday, believe in the abilities you have and try not to let what others say deture you from doing what is in your heart. You can do it.

I would love to get this board going and establish a dialogue with other singers who are dealing with their new post op bodies. I am a school music teacher and church choir director. I am also in college full-time to finally finish my music degree. Anyone want to come out and chat?

Hi everyone. I'll join in. I just added my interests to my profile, and poof! This message board appeared! I am tickled to find all of you! I belong to a small church and help lead the music portion of the worship. I love to sing, and the Lord has really blessed me with being able to help out at our church. I have noticed since my surgery that I have a lot more lung capacity. I have lost 60 lbs so far, and I have another 60-80 lbs to lose. Can't wait to see how much more lung capacity I get!
Blessings to all.
