Topic: RE: My 2006 Ski Season already Planned.
Hi Rich:
I am pre op, having to jump through some more hoops for the insurance Co. I was hoping to have wls by Dec, it didn't happen. I have a six month diet and exercise program to go through for the insurance co. to accept it.
If my phsyc had her s__t together, and gotten her report off to the surgeon on time, I could have been post op by now. The insurance co. changed its criteria on Dec 1.
Any way enough about my problems. I am on the ski patrol at http://www.andestowerhills.com
In Alexandria MN. nowhere near the better hills in Wis, but we do have several runs
Let me know if you're ever in the area in the winter time.
MN Dave
Take care have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Ps as for exercises, I'd go with squats, walking, leg stretching, a good weight lifting regimen, wouldn't hurt also.

Hi Maria:
I also love to ski and snowboard. I live in MN, and I am on the National Ski Patrol at our local skiing establishment. Andes Tower Hills in Alexandria MN.
You can visit the site at http://www.andestowerhills.com
Should any of you happen by Alexandria MN in the winter time I could more than likely get you a ski pass for a day, and surely a discount on ski rentals.
I do like to take at least one trip a year out to Montana for a real mountain ski journey.
Take Care
Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year.
Topic: My 2006 Ski Season already Planned.
I had my open RNY June 3 and am already planning next season's trips. They will be a week at Steamboat and a 4 day trip to Durango/Purgatory. Also throw in a couple of weekend trips to Wisconsin and Michigan UP.
My goals are to ski all day, not just till lunch. Out west I want to be able to do 25,000 feet of vertical on intermediate and advanced intermediate slopes. I want to enjoy powder even if it is churned up. I want to have the strength and stamina to do this every day and not need a day off in the middle of the trip.
Being four weeks post-op it may be too soon to do more than walk and some steps but I am looking forward to a good cardio and strengthening program.
Anybody got a good ski conditioning program for post-op open RNY?
Thanks,
Rich

I love to ski as well, and have done it for the past 3 years, every weekend at 320 lbs. I have Solomon symbio boots that are rear entry, and the local ski shop had extenders for me, and they fit great. Next season I am sure I won't need them. I am excited to try more black diamond runs, as now I am slow going down them because I know how much potential energy I have. But, by next season I should be down 120 lbs. and will be flying down the double diamonds I hope.

Hi David
Good Luck with your surgery.
I never had the problem with boots. I was worry
of rolling down the hill and becoming on big ball of snow and taking everything in sight down with me.
But then agian I've only been sking a few time last year.
I just got surgery done on 2-8-05 with the Cori Center and I'm starting to feel human again.
Although I haven't been out much. In fact the only time I've been out was to see my doctor
I'm so happy I had it done and this time next year I should be on ski again.
I would like learn how to snowborad. I think I would do good in that.

Maria,
Skiing is one of the biggest reasons that I am having WLS. Last year I could not get my boots buckled up because of my fat calves. I already owned the longest buckle extenders available for my new boots that I bought the season before because I grew out of my old boots. I realized that my alredy out of controll weight gain would get worse as skiing was my favourite form of winter exercise (golf and lake swimming in summer).
I figure I am two seasons away from getting back on the slopes based on getting surgery this spring/summer. Maybe we can get out skiing together then. I often go skiing in western New York State (Holiday Valley in Ellicotteville, NY and at Whiteface in Lake Placid NY) and Vermont (Jay Peaks and Killington).

Hi Maria!
I have loved to ski since I was a kid, but haven't much in the past 5 years because of the weight. It was so awful when I couldn't get my boots fastened over my fat calves!
That is getting to be a thing of the past, and I'm sure that by this ski season, I'm going to be ready to go out and get the cutest ski clothes on the slope, and who cares if my skiing kinda, well, you know, stinks, from disuse. I'm gonna be having fun and looking good in the lodge!
Unfortunately, I live here on the flats of Illinois, and have to drive too many hours to get to a decent hill. I'm with you in spirit, though. Let's here from all you other skiers (or skiers to be) out there!

HI :0)
My name is Maria
I love to ski. I'm not great at it. But had so much fun doing. I'm still learning. But didn't start skiing until I moved to Colorado. I had the fear of "Fat girls" they don't ski. They just sit home and do nothing. Bla bla bla.
I'm so happy I got over that fear. Now that I'm back in NYC and spring is here. It's going to be along time before I can do that again.
Anyway I'm looking to meet a few people that likes to ski. Maybe lives in NYS or lives near NYS and would like to ski when fall and winter comes around.
Plus it's always nice to make new friends
