Topic: RE: Soccer
I too hope to play soccer again. For now I am stuck on the sidelines coaching. Not so bad but I do want to have the energy to play again.

Hey that's great. I've been a soccer coach for about 12 years, ever since my son started playing at age 6. I've been a referee for about 3 years, however, never really did a lot of games until after my surgery in January. Now I get out there and referee and run up and down the field with teen agers and am able to keep up. I'm having a ball.
Maybe I'll even start playing a little now that I'm getting back into shape.

I think your success are great. I grew up playing and is saddens me to admit how quickly I get tired just kicking around. I want to be able to play adult co-ed myself. I don't know if I will ever be able to, but at least I wont be in as bad health as I am now.

I know this is a late reply, but I just read your post about soccer. I just have to tell you WAY TO GO! I too secretly have that dream, and maybe, just maybe, if I have this surgery, I can get on a women's team myself! Your post made me smile
Hope all is still going great for you in reaching your GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL! (weight and soccer!)
Regards,
Susy

I had WLS in July 2001. After WLS I discovered the joys of playing soccer for myself. At 300lbs there was no way that I evem tried to play the game, but having 4 boys, all of whom played soccer, including my husband, I always had a secret desire to play. Well, this past winter I joined a co-ed indoor soccer team with my husband. I had a blast! I had so much fun that I joined an outdoor woman's team. We had our first game this weekend. I survived it, barely. But just think, two years ago I wouldn't have even been able to survive it at 300 lbs. My 10 year old laughed and said I wasn't very good, but who cares, I'm doing it! In fact I'm doing a lot of things I never thought I could or would. I really look forward to this years indoor season so I can show my team mates you can teach an old dog new tricks!
