Topic: Support Group Interest???
Hello, I am located in Vancouver, WA. I had my surgery on Sept 21st...and almost immediately I noticed the lack of support group options in our Metro area!! I am going to be participating in a training and will be starting a local Chapter of a Pre/Post Op Support group for Bariatric patients! I am trying to get an idea of what the interest level is in our area.
I am looking to do something more fun and interactive. I'm considering maybe 2 meetings per month...one w/ an agenda & topic we can all 'chat' about...and then maybe have the second one of the month an activity, outing or something fun related to our topic. I don't know, just a little brainstorming!
As someone who is pretty recently post-op...I have come to realize one of the things we REALLY need is the ability to relate to others in our same shoes. As much as our loved ones want to help us and try to understand...bless their hearts...they just can't fully grasp what we are experiencing, thus, the need for a great support group!
I hope all of this makes some kind of sense! Please write back, give me some feedback, whether this is something you think you might be interested in, etc. I'd love to hear from you!!
Thank you, congratulations on your decision and the best of luck on your journey!

Topic: Portland, OR area...
I am having the HARDEST time trying to find a physical Support Group in my area. I actually live in Vancouver, WA...but I'm just across the bridge from Portland. Does anyone know of a local group. If not, do you know how I would go about starting one???
Thanks So much,

Topic: RE: DOES ANYONE GO TO SUPPORT GROUPS?
Hi Margaret,
Greetings from the other side of the USA. I am 10 months out of lap RNY and go to support groups every month. My Dr holds 2 per month, the first Tuesday of the month, they also hold a general information seminar that a lot of us go to to offer people thinking about the surgery some 'post-op wisdom and insight'. Our Dr also holds a meeting once a month for pre-ops, it's very small usually 4 or 5 pre-ops with 2 lap band and 2 RNY post ops. It's a round table format and we try to answer any questions that people have.
These meetings have made a world of difference in my life and I am so thankfull that my Dr. is so committed to his after care program. This was a great decision and I am happy that I picked the Dr that I did.
Hope this helps, continued success to you!
all the best,
Bob

Topic: DOES ANYONE GO TO SUPPORT GROUPS?
Hi, My name is Margaret and I live in Las Vegas. I had WLS just about a year ago in San Diego. Dr Alan Whitgrove is my surgeon, he is wonderful and has a great follow up program. He and his nurse come to Las Vegas every month and hold support group meetings for his patients. It is great and we get the support needed after surgery. I don't know what I would of done without these meetings. I had RNY Lap June 24, 2003 almost a year and what changes besides losing 103 lbs my health is much improved. More engery than I have ever had and a zest for life. Would love to chat with anyone pre-op or post-op. God bless. Margaret
