I am a Special Education Teacher
Hi my name is Patricia and I went to school to teach early education but ended up as a Special Education teacher I love it. I have been overweight since I had my first child and developed a thyroid problem that the military was unable to find. Finally three children later and a retirement from the military a Family Doctor found that I had a thyroid problem and that is why I couldn't lose weight. Well I was placed on medication but still had trouble losing weight. I have tried every diet there is and have failed to keep what I do lose off.
Hi there patricia,
I just read your post on the teachers message and was excited to hear about someone so like myself. I am a special education teacher as well. I too began my education early childhood and ended up teaching special ed. So have you had the RNY surgery yet or are you just beginning the process? I have been overweight most of my life as well. I was a chubby child and grew into an fat adult. I had surgery on the 15th of July. I waited for 8 years to have it done and 3 insurance companies. I got sick of waiting so I took matters into my own hands and had it done. So far it has been great, I would love to corresond if you would like too!
Hi Kristin,
I as well am a special education teacher that had went for elementary education to start and changed at the end to be a special education teacher. It really seems strange to hear of someone like myself! Two really takes the cake. I am waiting for my insurance approval and should find out in a couple of weeks. I am worried though that I may not be approved. I have a BMI of 40.1 now and no other comorbidities except that heart problems run in my family. I would love to talk to you if you have the time!
Hi Patricia and welcome. I'm a Special Education teaching assistant, and have been doing this for about 10 years. I've been overweight most of my life, but was very active. Now, as I've gotten older, the excess weight has taken it's toll. I went on Weigh****chers for the very first time when I was about 9 or 10. I've tried every diet, and OTC medication that I could find, and still nothing was permanent. I'm done all my testing, and am now in the process of sending all that information to my insurance company's "determination board". I would love to have the surgery over the summer, and not have to take any time off during the school year. Best of luck to you in your journey.
Edie
