Just wanted to see how many teachers were having surgery this summer. I'm having mine the Tuesday after we get out for the summer. I have to be there for pre-op on May 24th and surgery is May 25th. So exciting to think that I'll go back to school and the kids will have to look twice to see if I'm Mrs. Brown. I'm hoping to be below 200 when we go back. Christie

Good Luck!! I will be giving exams when you are having surgery and will keep my fingers crossed. I am just exploring the surgery avenue, so hopefully by next summer I will be in your shoes.

Hi there-- I am an elementary school teacher in FL. I teach 4th grade this year, but I am "looping" with my class to 5th grade for next year. School ends May 28th and I am having surgery on June 21st. I go back to school August 4th, so I will have 6 weeks at home. Hopefully I will lose 30-35 lbs. or more before school. I am also interested to see the kids' reactions....especially since I will have the same students! Where do you live Christie? Feel free to email me at [email protected] would love to have a surgery buddy who is also a teacher. GOOD LUCK!!!! Marjorie

Hi Christie, I teach 3rd grade Special Education. I've just started the process. If everything goes well, I am looking at a September date. I wish I had started earlier so that I could have my surgery in the summer. I most definetly do not want to wiat for next summer. Maybe I could have it done over the Christmas break. Well... Good Luck with every thing. Vonetta

Hi Everyone. I am a 4th grade teacher in Northern California, and I am having surgery in 3 days! (My wife is also having WLS in one month.) I am excited to see the kids reactions. I am, however, concerned about maintaining the energy to manage thirty-one 4th graders 8 weeks after surgery. Good luck all. --Brett!

Hi y'all! I am also a teacher and I had my surgery this summer too. In a few days will be my 1st month anniversary and i am settling down into the new routine. I am somewhat concerned about stress and eating since I used to be a big (no pun intended..hee hee hee) fan of "it's just easier to order a pizza". I get so busy during the school year....I teach HS French...with correcting and grading and exams etc. that I used to just grab what was closest and fastest. Do any of you have ideas?? Susan

Dear Christie, I started teaching in 1979 and had the WLS on August 2nd, 2004. It had been scheduled for July 26th, 2004 originally. I was glad that I had the surgery in the summertime. It was good to be able to be off from work for the surgery and to recuperate also. I believe that all teachers should have it done during the summer break to give enough time to have it done and to begin the new life style change. This way there are no distractions from what you have to do and you have plenty of time to do it in. I hope that you are much healthier now that your 8 month anniversary is approaching. We are both now on the losing side. Continued good luck and positive changes!!! Sincerely, Annette (-80 lbs.)
