Topic: RE: Where are all the teachers PERIOD.
Hi Christie,
This is the first time for me on this message board. I'm always on the MI board. I know in Michigan we are some stressed out professionals. I have no idea what it's like in other states.
I just sent my youngest son to live with his dad in Sugar Land, TX. It took him 2 weeks to get him enrolled in school. Here in Detroit it takes less than an hour.
I'm happy to be on this board. What's up with everyone?!?!
Love, Collette
P.S. Wow just loooked and your message it's almost 3 weeks old.
I'm going to Dunkin to get a nice hot cup of coffee because it's cold
here in the Motor City.
Topic: what about winter break?
do you all find it easier to eat right when you are teaching then during breaks? I do. My husband does Atkins, my daughter is a vegetarian, and my boys are bottomless pits, so sometimes I feel like I need to feed people all day when I am at home. Just wondering if anyone else feels this way?

I keep protein bars in my teaching bag at all times, and if I get tempted by the goodies I slice up a bar that I like the taste of and eat it like cookies so that it feels like a treat. My favorite flavor is chocolate mint, and I pretend its thin mint cookies. Plus I keep my before pictures in my purse, and I still record everything I eat, so I see my picture as I am grabbing for my food record book and it reminds me that what I looked like 118 lbs ago is NOT where I want to be. (Plus I still have a long way to go!)

Topic: RE: QUESTION of the WEEK
Well, ground beef plain would gag me and I haven't had my WLS...yet. I eat those Smartones meals now for lunch and wish I had two, so I can't imagine sharing one. You teachers are doing great. I had my initial, but am waiting for summer so I can be off work. I teach special ed./severely handicapped high school students and I am finding that I can't keep up with the kids or the pace. The day is exhausting. This is my second year teaching. Period. Going to college. One more year. I really need to take care of myself so I can continue this path. My coworker, an aid had WLS and I watch how she eats: Pot pies and pizza bread. Our lunch line is pretty bad. Hey they even added an energy drink to the line and I don't know why they think the kids need that much caffeine. Rambling Diane

I have the attitude that this kind of food is just not mine. I have managed to stay away from sugar since my surgery and I am not about to start in on it now. The other teachers and the kids are very respectful of my food decisions. Everyone knows I had the surgery and they know that I don't eat sugar. When one of my kids offers me something, I just say "that is so nice of you! Can I share it with the other teachers? Mrs. O'Connell can't eat sugar, it makes her very sick." Kids are amazingly understanding of that.

christie,
i've really not had a problem with being tempted by sweets so far this holiday season. my husband (who also had wls) and i work at the same school. so far everyone has been very supportive with our diet by offering foods that cater to us at our faculty meetings, etc. be careful with the taste testing - it sounds like a fun job, but a dangerous one as well! even before the surgery i didn't have that big of a sweet tooth, my biggest downfall is with pastas and breads.

Hi Everyone,
I'm sure most schools are like mine and there are sweets galore this time of year. How do you deal with the extra temptation of sweets and goodies during the holidays?
Tomorrow is day one of three 4H Baked Goods contest. Our teacher's table will be covered in food which we have to judge...for three days. My grade is tomorrow, so I will certainly have to judge, but will do so by tasting VERY small amounts. I haven't dumped on anything really, so small tastes shouldn't be a big deal. I will just have to eat my meat and then a bite of the goodies.
The biggest problem for me is chocolate. I just don't keep it around. If I did I don't know that I could stay away from it.

Christie what a great idea. I don't know why I haven't been checking the teacher board more often. You are right the KY state message board is always hopping. I have had my surgery for 21/2 years. I have lost 239lbs. The students I have now are mostly have parentst i taught in the pass. And they are thrilled about my weight lose. I can get around better and enjoy playing at recess with my students. Even though some of the younger teachers don't think that a 48 year old should be swinging or crawling through the tubes on the playground. Diane

I am also a special ed teacher. I had my sugery on the 23 and I actually started work on the 29th part time in our afterschool program. It is the 2nd of November and I am back full-time. I hope I can make it! Good luck on your sugery!

Well, this is Monet's husband. Today is my first day back at work and I am still on soft foods. I brought skippy-no sugar peanut butter and crackers for lunch and a low carb yogart for snack.
