Topic: RE: I am a Special Education Teacher
Hello! My name is Annette and I went to college originally to teach elementary education, only to change my major to Special Education one semester later. I took a leave of absence from teaching after 12 years and then began my journey for WLS. I have had a weight problem most of my life and also suffer with hypothyroidism. Three years ago I had lost 68 lbs. on the Weigh****chers Diet, only to gain it all back plus, upon going off the diet. I just had my surgery done 4 weeks ago on 8/2/04. I was in intensive care for 5 days due to some complications. Now I'm all right, except for dumping quite a bit. By the way, I'm from Brooklyn, New York and went to Coney Island Hospital for the WLS. Feel free to answer me. Lots of Luck...
Topic: What do you think?
Hi, I was so glad to find this board. I am thinking aboub going to back to school to get t teaching Cert in Ct. They have them there becasue they really need teachers. I already have a BA in Sociology and minors in Psych and social Work. I have been working with adults with developmental disabilities for the past 8 years now. I was thinking of getting a Cert in Early Child. Ed which would let me teach Pre-k to 3rd grade. I am looking into the program at Eastern Connecticut State Univ. and would want to teach on the eastern side of CT. I would love to hear from teachers in CT, from people who went to Eastern or just anyone who would like to share? I am really struggling over. I have heard that it is hard to find teaching jobs, wich I found odd because I keep hearing that we need more teachers. I would love your input. P.s. I would have to do Early Ed because I am such a lousy speller/typer ;)

Topic: RE: Summer 2004
Hi y'all! I am also a teacher and I had my surgery this summer too. In a few days will be my 1st month anniversary and i am settling down into the new routine.
I am somewhat concerned about stress and eating since I used to be a big (no pun intended..hee hee hee) fan of "it's just easier to order a pizza".
I get so busy during the school year....I teach HS French...with correcting and grading and exams etc. that I used to just grab what was closest and fastest.
Do any of you have ideas??

Topic: RE: Surgery completed, I'm on the losing side.
Hi Mary,
I'm almost 6 weeks out now and still feeling great. I have lots of energy and have started riding my bike dailly, doing floor exercises, and walking. I have not been losing as fast as most do, but that is ok as long as I continue to lose and feel this great. I'm down around 23lbs.
When is your surgery? Good Luck on your journey.

Dear Christie,
I was very encouraged by your post....I am anticipating being up and around quickly....and would like to attend a reading/writing workshop in New York 2 weeks post op. Your experience sounds fabulous...I hope for the same speedy healing. How's the weight loss?

Topic: RE: 2 weeks WAHOOOOOOOOO
Dear Alice,
I'm in whaoooo mode too...surgery is scheduled for July 12! I am still waiting for insurance approval, but surgeon and primary care are both confident that it will be a done deal. Last week I was on vacation in North Carolina and called the surgeon's office in New Jersey three times to check....they must LOVE me!
I am also a teacher...5th grade.
Good luck with everything...I'll try to post again when I've had my surgery to check up on yoU. Mary

Hi Alice,
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I remember that feeling of excitement as it got so close. I had my surgery the first day possible after we got out for summer break. I was soooo busy the last two weeks before surgery I never had time to get worried.
I've felt GREATTTT since surgery. I never had pain. I had a little pressure from gas, nothing a little walking and rubbing wouldn't take care of.
WALK WALK WALK SIP SIP SIP!!!
Keep us informed on how you are doing. GOOD LUCK!!!
Christie

Topic: RE: Summer 2004
Hi Everyone.
I am a 4th grade teacher in Northern California, and I am having surgery in 3 days! (My wife is also having WLS in one month.)
I am excited to see the kids reactions. I am, however, concerned about maintaining the energy to manage thirty-one 4th graders 8 weeks after surgery.
Good luck all.
--Brett!
