Topic: can i miss the last day?
Hi there fellow teachers! I just found this board, and I am so excited to "meet" all of you!
I am scheduled to go to a meeting with a surgeon on the last day of school, May 30th (which is records day). Anyone know the policy on that, I know we are not supposed to miss, but it is for a good cause! haha. Any thoughts on who would be mad at me, or should I just try and reschedule (next date would be June 13th, and I am sure you can relate to me wanting to get this process started and surgery scheduled for this summer!:) ).
Thanks!
Karly

Topic: RE: Teacher Goodies
Hi there, fellow teacher here. I teach special education at a mental health facility in KY. I have all girls (most are wards of the state)! I actually teach tutorial days (extended calendar) and was planning on teaching 5 units on different countries this summer. I wanted to do 5 days on each country, including a craft, movie, culture, food, and maybe an intro. day on that Monday.
I was wondering if you had any resources on this sort of activity? I am a NEW teacher (my 3rd year, but just finished my Master's, have not done my KTIP-that will be this year! ugh!), and resources are limited! As you can imagine! :)
Just let me know if you have anything I could maybe use!
Thanks,
Karly

Congratulations Sandi, that's wonderful! Very happy for you. Yes, being at work is definately a mixed blessing, but I agree with you that the good outweighs the bad. And only 2 weeks until Winter Break! YOU GO GIRL!

Glad to be back in the world of the (relatively) healthy. Kinda takes my mind off of things, you know? Shows me again why I'm doing all this--so that I can LIVE. Kids were great. We read a story. I sat most of the day. For my elective I showed a movie. Easy day, low stress. Good to be back.

I didn't return to teaching this year, and now I am getting rid of all my teacher materials. I thought some of you might be interested in it.

Hello everyone,
I'm leaving for my surgery appointment in SanFran this morning, so I won't be posting for a few days. The next time that you hear from me, I'll be in the ranks of post-op loser with all of you! I can hardly wait to make my first post.
Thank you all for all of the vital information you've given me. You've really helped me get ready for this thing--physically, mentally and emotionally.
Have a great week--I'll try to post before Thanksgiving.
Best,
Sandi

Hi Pamela,
hope your recovery is going smoothly. My surgery is a week from tomorrow and I can hardly stand to wait anymore!
I agree with you about it being about our health. I think it's funny/strange how teachers really tie themselves up in knots about taking time off. I do that too much. Worry about the kids not being ok. Worry about the the sub not being ok. Worry about the school not being ok...
Always putting other's needs ahead of my own is a major contributor to my obesity, and I need to deal with this as much as the food.
