Topic: Summer 2004

Just wanted to see how many teachers were having surgery this summer. I'm having mine the Tuesday after we get out for the summer. I have to be there for pre-op on May 24th and surgery is May 25th. So exciting to think that I'll go back to school and the kids will have to look twice to see if I'm Mrs. Brown. I'm hoping to be below 200 when we go back. Christie

This Texas teacher was transplanted to Michigan three years ago. I had surgery 4/1/04 and have lost 30 lbs so far. I went back to work after three weeks. I teach K-3 special ed. I sure do miss Texas but we are headed there in Aug. Our youngest is getting married in Fredricksburg. How I long for that heat!!!

Hi Julia! I am a school Music Teacher. I love my job. You are brave to be aiming for 6th grade

I teach pre-k through grade 8 in a catholic school. I also have private students for piano and voice lessons.

Hi Kristin, I as well am a special education teacher that had went for elementary education to start and changed at the end to be a special education teacher. It really seems strange to hear of someone like myself! Two really takes the cake. I am waiting for my insurance approval and should find out in a couple of weeks. I am worried though that I may not be approved. I have a BMI of 40.1 now and no other comorbidities except that heart problems run in my family. I would love to talk to you if you have the time!

Hi everyone, I am currently in school to become a teacher. My goal at present is to become a 5-6 grade history teacher, maybe english. I would appreciate insight from other teachers as to what you like about your job and what you dislike, etc. Thanks, I appreciate it!!

I am planning on taking the week after Easter break off. That puts me back in my first grade class 18 days after surgery....I hope it's enough. My kids are testing the following week!

I teach full-day kindergarten to 31 kids in a catholic school. My surgery is this Monday 4/5. I have a two week easter recess and then I plan to go back (maybe can squeeze a few sick days if need be). There's too much coming up for me to be out for. Hope I'm okay to get through it. I can sit for a while (use my aid more) but can't sit all day. Good luck to us all! Melissa

I'm taking 3 weeks off (April 27th surgery-going back May 18th) then I'm getting married in Las Vegas on June 19th! Everyone I've spoken to has said I should be fine, especially since I'm young (29). I just plan to be very strict with my diet, get my protein, drink lots of water, and sit down when I need to!!! Take care
