Topic: RE: Do you tell your kids?
I told everybody. I figured the more people who knew the more prayers and support I would get. I was right. A fe people didn't want me to have the surgery. They were concerned for my safety. But, I told them that I was going to die if I didn't have it. And that I had prayed and felt lead to have the surgery. The kids were supportive and made their mothers call and check on me. I found that comforting. Of course, I had taught most of the parents. Diane

Hi Linda. I'm a first grade teacher in KY. I have being teaching for 27 years. I have taught every grade except K. I would suggest as you prepare that you get a notebook and write all your thoughts down good and bad. I call mine the journey journal. It's a good way to get things off your chest when you just want to scream. I researched and prayed for 10 months before I made the decision to have the RNY. I will be 3 years out in June. I began to walk for 30 mintues brfore the surgery. I didn't walk fast or far but I walked. I also drank 3 protein shakes each day and had a regular meal in the evening. I suggest that you start experimenting with proceeds food. My favorite was and I still make it is a chicken cheese soup.Cook skinless boneless chicken breast until falling apart. Then heat a can of chicken broth. Add broth chicken and Veletta cheese together in a blender and blend until smooth. Diane

Monet, I have going to the singles board and forgetting to check in here. But, I found a web site at christmas I think it was Uncle Quackers, I'm not sure but if you go to your search engine and type in the type of music and put for kids it will usually take you to a long list of sites. Diane

Topic: RNY candidate
Hello, I just found this board. I am a third grade teacher in Florida. I team teach with a friend. I teach all the Language Arts and Social Studies. I am in the last few weeks of completing my portfolio for National Board Certiification. That has me majorly stressed. I am also going through the pre-op process for RNY. That is the only procedure that my insurance will cover. I have two sisters that have had the surgery and they are doing well. Does anyone have any super suggestions for me as I go through this time? I am hoping to have the surgery done in June or early July since we start school the first week in August. Linda

Topic: RE: HAS Insurance
Shelly, I have just started the process of asking insurance for payment of the surgery. I have HAS through Richardson ISD which is just outside Dallas. I have not heard anything yet. What was your end result with them?? It looks like you posted this a year or more ago. I would love to know what happened and where you are now with the process. Thanks, Libby

I've always been open to my students about what I was going to have done even before I had it done. They have always been supportive. If I have new students I even have pics I show them. They are always how much have I lost now. I think people should be open about it. THat is how other people learn. And queen bee- I wouldnt care what that person thinks. SHe doesnt even want you to have it. And it could save your life. And I think to go through something and be apositive influence on someone else is what it is all about. Jamie

Topic: RE: MUSIC TEACHERS???????
This year I teach 7th and 8th grade chorus and music appreciation. All girls except 2 guys. Last year I also taught preK-3rd. Before that I taught grades 4-8 band, 150 member chorus and music appreciation. I'm looking for a job in Georgia because that is where my husband lives. Last year I had the elementary do a Mexican Fiesta program and I taught them a Mexican dance. I will not forget how I could barely show them how. I can definitely now do that much better. Jamie
