Another CRAZY teacher her, using the Summer break to have the surgury and get comfortable with the routine, without the kids around! My surgeons were taking the two weeks following my school being let out to not have surguries, so I actually had to pu**** up to the last day of School. I will miss out on my kids graduation :'( But I am really looking for to recovering as much as possible before starting again this fall! Robyn (Socal)

My surgery is on Tuesday, November 1st. I told my ninth and tenth graders, and they were quite supportive. I am shocked, but happy.

I am a High School Teacher and eleive me be your self. They still like to be babied. I decorate my class room with a lot of motivational quotes about knowledge, perserverance, Intelligence and truth. They love the quotes as I change them every so often. i use lots of colors and I put a border around things that I want them to read,

Hi all! I am a special education teacher in NC. I have always taught Elementary School (self-contained BED) and have now accepted a position teaching 9th grade Language Arts Resource. I need suggestions on how to set up my classroom, what procedures to use, helpful websites etc. I know these kids are still kids, but I don't want to treat them like babies! I am looking forward to this new challenge and can't wait to start! Joy

It really depends a great deal on the age of the students. However I have found music to be a great motivator for many ages. Pick a particular song you only use for transitions, it should be calm with a steady beat, even something they can sing to while they clean-up and transition. A digital timer works great to, but no matter what you use you have to train them what the sounds and signals mean. vicki c.

Hi there. I was wondering if you ever got a job? The market is horrible out here in California too! Aimee

Try Champion Whey Chocolate or Banana Scream. Those are really yummy and not so thick. Sheryl

Hi Nanette... After completing one activity try turning off the lights briefly or using a pleasing bell or tone. I assume that you have little ones. I teach high school special ed. so my kids have less trouble moving from one activity/ lesson to another. I also suggest that you "cue" them verbally prior to the end of one activity & the begining of another. For example " Okay 5 more minutes until we clean up & move on to Math time"... " Clean up time"..." Now let's get ready for our math lesson, Everyone in their seats heads & eyes up here please ". Who's ready for math now...Show me please... Good luck...They'll get the hang of it... Best of health to you... Marianne

Hi Shelley Thanks for the reply...I have returned to my classroom since my last posting. (back in Dec.) I am doing well now. I have lost around 115 lbs. since my surgery back on June 14th. I walk each day & feel great. Getting back to work was the best thing for my recovery. I was so very weak upon my return, but the kids & the job helped/ forced me to get better. Of course my nurse & my surgeon helped as well. I wish you health & happiness...Marianne

Have you tried online teaching? I do it at universalclass.com. You can choose your own subjects, write the class, tests and assignments and it's a nice little paycheck for 'in the meantime' until you get back to full-fledged work in the actual classroom. Sheryl
