I talked with the lady at my doctors office today. She wanted to schedule me for October 31st! I told her that was a bit too early because my mom would be coming in from Florida and she needs time to make arrangements. So now my official date is November 7th!!!!!!! OMG thats a little over three weeks away! I am sooooooo excited. Any info that I can get from any of you will be greatly appreciated. Foods that I need to buy to have after I come home, what i need to take to the hospital, good proteins that I can buy, etc.

As far as foods for when you come home, check what your surgeon requires, everyone seems to be different. My surgeon had me on SF CIB, and broth for three weeks. But like I said, everyone is different. As for what to take to the hospital, slippers, a book, chapstick, hand lotion, hair brush, toothpaste and brush, the basic personal hygene stuff. I recommend wearing the hospital gowns as they are the easiest to deal with when it comes to the IV's, etc... Take very comfortable clothes to come home in, nothing that's going to be binding on your stomach. As far as proteins, it's a crap shoot. I would recommend getting a sample pack from one of the websites as your tastes will change and you won't know yet what you can and cannot tolerate. Good luck, Toni

Thanks so much for your reply. It seems that all my info that I have collected in the past has went right out the window since I was told that I am approved.

I ave to agree with prev post. I suggest if you can to but the individual packects of protein at first to see what you can tolerate because protein is expensive you don't want to waste money on something you don't like.

Congrats on the surgery date! What hospital will you be at? Definitely order some sample packs of proteins. Also, ask at your surgeon's office. Most of them get all kinds of samples from various companies. Make sure you take something to help you wipe after using the bathroom. I found it too painful to reach while I was swollen and sore right after surgery. Good luck! Your day will be here before you know it.

Hi Ms Me, I suggest a small fan. It helps to relax you, drowns out the hall noise, and keeps the air circulating. They brought me in a fan last January and it really did wonders in drowning out the nurses in the hall ways. I didn't try any protein prior to surgery. Any I do get is unflavored so it can be added to soups, sf jello, sf pudding, in your water, scrambled eggs. Then you won't have to spend a lot of money on something that you don't like. Rite-Aide carries on for $10.99, one scoop is 22 grams, and it's unflavored. I get a lot of my protein just from food I eat, like refried beans, with cheese, chicken wings, fish, shrimp, can't tolerate tuna right now. The smell of it makes me sick. And I love tuna. I use ground up chicken from Krogers instead of hamburger and I only buy chicken franks, I keep egg rolls in the freezer then just pop it into the microwave. I buy the chicken flavor from the freezer section, there's 6 to a box, with the sweet sour sauce included. I wish you joy in your new life. Can't wait to to meet you sometime. May God travel with you on this new journey. Love Kathy

I think I will grab me a can or two of the unflavored protein powder. All of the area people should have a meet and greet somewhere. Maybe even have a "support group" meeting. I would really love that.

I used a long handled wooden spoon. You just wrap the tissue around the spoon part and it's easy to wipe and slip the used tissue off into the toilet. I've heard several people say that their room at Vandy was too close to the Life Flight helipad. You might want to take a pair of ear plugs in case you have this situation. I recommend the soft foam ear plugs from the hunting department at Wal-Mart. (I chaperone a lot of teen trips with fathers who snore and I swear these are the best!) I know that Vandy had Bariatric Advantage samples on their table at the Walk From Obesity. I would ask the nut for some of those. I also recommend Any Whey from GNC. It is a truly flavorless protein that you can add to anything and it doesn't clump in warm liquids. If you buy it from GNC and you don't like it you can take it back. Personally, I use Designer Whey, Unjury and the Any Whey. I tried several different ones pre & post op and these are the ones I like. I get the DW at GNC and at The Vitamin Shoppe; Unjury I have to order online. I also love the protein pudding mix from The Vitamin Shoppe. When you are allowed to move from liquid to soft, this would be the right consistency. It's available in Double Dutch Chocolate and Vanilla. There are several of us in the north Nashville area. We need to have a get together this month. I'm available any Saturday. Week nights are a little more restricted. Let me know when would be a good time for you and we'll see how many we can get. Maybe we can get together for lunch one Saturday. Susan

Thanks for all the great info, Susan. A get together sounds great! I believe I am available most any weekend. We should see who all would be willing to come.
