Vegetarians?
Hi,
I am a little worried about getting my protein in post-op. I know i can stick to the protein drinks, but I am a vegetarian and I usually eat the soy or veggie burgers/products. I am wondering if I will have problems later on. Is anyone a vegetarian and if so, how do you get sufficient protein in? I eat eggs and soy and dairy, but no fish, chicken, other meat, etc... (nothing with a face, lol!). Thanks in advance.
As gastric bypass patient, I eat soy protein (boca burgers) a lot of the time because they're just easy to fix. I melt a slice of reduced fat cheese on top of it and eat it just as it is with a dab of ketchup and mustard and that equals about 18 grams of protein. I'm not big on cooking but will every once in a while cook chicken and extra lean ground beef, but my diet consists of these boca burgers, cheese, and protein drinks. Just make sure you let your nutrtitionists know and they'll be able to recommend appropriate foods for ya

Ditto what April said. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you use the protein powders/shakes and your soy veggie burgers, etc... I eat veggie burgers too because sometimes I still have trouble with beef. I used to LOVE a good ole steak but now can't hardly stand them because of how much they have to be chewed.
Toni, ground chicken from Krogers tastes just like beef without all the fat, and makes really tasty burgers, or anything you would put beef in, you can use ground chicken instead. I still can't handle any breads, beef or pork. But lately can't chew any food and get it down. But I would take a chicken burger over soy imitation in a heart beat. LOL
I'll talk with y'all on Saturday. Love you, and thanks for listening. My heart is breaking into right now, I trust God fully, but this isn't how I invisiioned spending the holidays. I was supposed to got to John's for the New Years celebration, but he broke all ties, even when I saw him online he declined to chat with me.
Oh well, I had a quiet no Thanksgiving. That hurt at first but I didn't feel like entertaining anyone. So I was glad I didn't have to do alot of cooking when I couldn't enjoy it for choking.
I need to get busy, y'all have fun this weekend, I want a full report how it went. Love you, my friend, kathy
Thanks for the responses. I am getting the lap band and I heard that a lot of people had problems with "tougher" foods going down. I didn't know if the soy products counted in that tough to digest category. I am glad that I will be able to incorporate those things and I will definitely bring it up with the nutritionist. :)
