Does anyone suffer from horriable back pain after their surgery ? I am post surgery three years and I have lost 302 pounds. I was told several times by many Doctors the pain was caused from the huge amount of weight I was caring and ok I will go for that 610 pounds whos back would not hurt duhhhhhhh! Now I lost 302 Pounds and I am in more pain than before now they say that I have nerve damage and I have to take narcotics to help the pain to stay in control enough I can enjoy my new found life but I wonder if anyone out there has to deal with the same problem as I do or as always I am just the odd ball out hahahahah! I would any suggestions any of you may have that I could maybe try.

I had surgery in October. I've lost 73 pounds now and my back hurts all the time. My low back feels like it has a catch in it and I can't stand up straight at times. Then the other day it hurt under my bra strap. I can't seem to sit for long periods. Its hard to sit through sermons in church. I asked my primary doctor today and he said try some children's liquid tylenol and heating pad... if it doesnt work, we may try some physical therapy, or some muscle relaxers. Right now I am just in the moaning and griping stage, though.

Leslie, It is a common problem among the obese to have back problems. Also you might have a disc that is bulging too that could cause the pain too. Has your doctor run any MRI's of your back? Also if he or she has. You might want to tell them you know their is a ten's unit made for home use and that you heard that it would be good for the muslces and nervous in your back. My mother has one before her disc go worse she loved it. The unit really helped her alot. But you can only get ten's unit by a doctor's referral and the insurance company's okay. I have had back problems before my surgery and I lost 75 pounds and I awake still with my back hurting. I was told that losing weight would help but it does not. I have a disc in my lower back bugling and one in my neck too. So I am in for the pain. I bought a soft sealy bed for me. I tend to hurt more in a firm bed. Plus when the bed does not help I go and sleep in the recliner. The relaxed sitting in the recliner helps take a lot of stress off my back in some areas. You might want to try a recliner too, it might help or might not. I hope this help's you some. And I hope you will one day be pain free. Your friend, Tina Cannon

HI Leslie, there are many reasons why you may have back pain now after surgery. Strained muscles or nerves from carrying the excess weight. Try checking into seeing a Chiropractor. I have spurs on the vertabraes in my neck with 2 bulging disks. The lower spine has cancer in the bone marrow, tail bone, and hip bones. I went to see one, and within 2 weeks I no longer had any pain in the lower spine. I go for therapy for my neck. They are trying to stretch my neck to get the bulging disks to go back into place. But the spurs are digging into the muscles causing them to swell and affecting my ability to swallow. Remember your body was damaged as an obese person, now that you are losing the weight, your body may ache in places because they no longer are carrying a heavy load. I would suggest having your PCP run some tests, and if nothing shows up, see a Chiropractor. I wish you the best of luck, always, Kathy
