Say what? My beautiful 16 year old baby

I can do this. I will remain clam. I will remain calm. MY beautiful 16 year old daughter has been having partial complex seizures that sometimes generalize. She has been on homebound for almost 2 school years, with several attempts to go back that just cause her seizures to worsen. Now, she says she wants to be in school but can;t take it with the seizures, she's always afraid what if I have one now. She won't go hardly anywhere with just me, afraid I'll have to deal with all 118 lbs of her by myself. ANYWHO>>>>She's had little studies done so I ask about an epilepsy monitoring unit where they keep you for days to see exactly what and where the seizures happen....so I get a call back about the Cleveland Clinic in OH, they are known for caring and doing a great job. So I get a call from the intake nurse to get more info and she says flat out...I need you to know this means we're considering Kimmy for a surgical consult. If we think she may be a candidate for a temporal lobe resection after we receive her info, you'll be asked up.... Blow me over! the neuro has never suggested this to me, so now I've been researching and people who are intractable (unable to control seizures with meds) and haing Mesial temporal sclerosis (scarring or calcifications in the temporal lobe of the brain) are often considered for surgical options....So, here I go stepping into a new area, trying to remain calm and see the bright side that 80% of people who have the surgery are seizure free after but man oh man, if I didn'thave to hold it together for my baby....... Well, at least Brittany shaved her head this week. We've been saying it would definitely get some stares at prom.

Definitely let us know how things go. You know we will hold you and your daughter in prayer. If they decide that surgery can help give her a normal life, I pray that God will guide the surgeon's hands and bring her safely through.

Hi Beth! I have watched several specials and documentaries on the temporal resection and the results are amazing. The quality of life for these people increases so tremendously than they would all do it again...a very high success rate. I pray that if your daughter is a candidate, that all goes well and she experiences 100% relief and can go back to school. Hang in there...we're here for you!
