Brand New

I am new to this forum and have been obtaining information about the lap band for about 3 months now. I should have inquired about it long before now. So far, I have seen two phycicians I am interested in. Dr Boyce and Dr. Mancini. Any thing I should know? Any advise on the insurance issues?

You should also research Dr.Colquitt in Maryville. He is my doctor and I have been more than pleased with him! Good Luck in your journey!

Thanks so much... I will do that. I told my Primary phycician today that I need a referral from him for Dr. Boyce. I'm affraid that I dont even know where Maryville is... I have a friend that lives there from my training class at work though. I will still look into that Dr. as well. Thanks!!!

Welcome Sherri! We have a few people on here who have used Dr. Boyce and Dr. Colquitt. Haven't heard of Dr. Mancini before. We also have a few lap band patients here who I'm sure will chime in with words of wisdom. Have you been to a seminar for the doctors you are interested in? You might want to attend as many seminars as are available in your area to make sure you choose the doctor that will be the best fit for you. For insurance, the best advice I can offer anyone, no matter what procedure you are seeking...call your insurance member services line and ask 1) if WLS is covered; 2) do they require a specific period of dr supervised weight loss attempt; 3) what do they require to make a pre-authorization determination? Then check with your primary doctor for a letter of medical necessity. Good luck!
