constipation
New to this board & to this whole process, but I will try to offer what I have learned.
I am simply going thru my 2-wk liquid diet prior to having surgery (which is scheduled for Monday, May 14th) and I became constipated last week. I was advised by my nutritionist/dietitian to ensure I am drinking 64 oz of water OR MORE per day. It helps to dilute any other things taken in and breaks bowel down for easier passage/removal. (trying hard not to sound too graphic or gorey w/details)
Not certain how much water you drink on a daily basis, but that was definitely my concern. Hope that helps!
Sip, sip, sip. You have got to get your fluids in.
Also, if you are still needing pain medication, pain meds can make you constipated.
I know you can take Milk of Magnesia even as newly post-op as you are. If that doesn't help, call your doc before using anything stronger.
Remember too, you are not taking in much food right now. It may be several days between "movements" simply because there is not much to move. If you are having discomfort though, call your doctor.
