You'll have to check with your nutritionist on tomato juice but I know mine told me on juice that it's liquid calories and the juices such as orange, etc., are full of sugar which is a no-no.

Are you talking pre-op or post-op liquids? Post-op, any juice may have too many carbs and may cause dumping. Anytime, juice is concentrated calories in a form that moves quickly through the system and does not give a lasting feeling of satisfaction. My post-op "full" liquids consisted of anything that was the consistency that would fit through a drinking straw...even though we were told not to use straws. So, yes, SF pudding meets the criteria.  It does not qualify as part of your fluid intake for the day however. That needs to be calorie free, caffeine free liquid.

Thanks Susan, I have just decided I will do liquids for at least 2 weeks to get ready for the surgery. Would be nice if my liver wasn't too big to have it done lap instead of open. I am doing this kinda clueless as to what will shrink my liver.  So this is what I am doing ..... Daily 4cups skim milk with a scoop of whey protien in each. 23 grams of protien per scoop. That gives me about 800 calories there.I am not hungry at all in my stomach , no growling. The head says I am hungry though so I have added one SF icepop and 2 cups of tomato juice for snack. All in all for a Huge eater like me 3 days without food has not been bad at all.... I am guessing it will get worse? I just want to be careful and try and lose a lil weight before surgery. I sure would appreciate your advice. Waiting on a date, Adrienne

Just an FYI, they will put you on a 2 week "full" liquid diet leading up to your surgery date. For me, the day before surgery was clear liquids only. I think that's what Dr. Houston does too.

You are right about shrinking the liver though, it will reduce the chances of having to have an open procedure. You do know that you can have all the broth and flavored (sugar free) water you want?! Be careful about buying a lot of protein supplements before your surgery. I can guarantee that your tastes will change post-op. What you like now will probably not be what you like post-op. We can give you suggestions for doctoring it though that may enable you to use it up. Good luck! I hope you get a date very soon.
