Juanita I am so happy for you!!!  whoopeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you are thrilled!  As for the rest of us, we are still keeping our eyes peeled for new positions.... so say some prayers... although my job search has rather settled the past month or two.  I just resolved in my heart that I am where I am for a reason.... and God has a timing that I don't understand.... for whatever reason, I'm still HERE!    I think a lot of people get new jobs after wls.  It would be interesting to see some sort of research as to why, wouldn't it?

Just don't give up. I felt the same way for the longest that I was where I belonged and just wasn't meant to go elsewhere. I have been looking and applying off and on for over a year now and had so many let downs. I didn't give up though and now finally I was made an offer! You are right though it would be interesting to do a research as to the reason people get promotions after WLS.  If it's because of new found confidence or due to new appearance?? Hmmm very interesting indeed.. : )

It might also be because people who are obese feel like they have to accept how they are treated... and settle for less than they deserve or want.  Then after losing the weight, they say "I'm worth it!" and don't let people walk all over them anymore....  I haven't had this happen YET, but have heard of some people saying that the gastric bypass patient acts different now that they have had wls.... and can even use that in a negative derogatory way against them... kind of like "oh now that you've had THAT surgery, you act better than me..." or something like that....  I think people become intimidated once we start gaining our confidence because things won't be 'like they always have been'....  the surgery and weight loss affects every area of our lives... the way we interact with our friends, family, way we view ourselves, how we conduct ourselves at work.... positive ways, but still it can be threatening I guess.

AMEN, I think you hit the nail on the head, I believe that when we are overweight we think we must take the treatment that others dish out, but after surgery, maybe we get a backbone and take up for ourselves and others think that we are being difficult, when in reality, we are just demaning the same equal treatement that others receive.  I am having the same difficulty at my work now, but I am professionally stubborn and they are not going to make me miserable, I am just as good as they are and I do not have to like them, just be professional and get the job done and doing the job well is what I do, but my eyes are open for other options!!! Congratulations on the new position Juanita!!! We all know you are worthy, it's about time your employer recognized that too. As for the attitude change after WLS... I have been told that I have changed. Some people see it as a bad thing, others recognize it as improved self esteem. I was told that the way I react to "some people" has changed. The people on the receiving end of this change see it as a negative.  The person who pointed out this change in me told me that it seems I am saying things to some people that I have wanted to say for a long time but I've kept my mouth shut and taken their abuse instead. She also said she had mentioned it to her boyfriend who also works here and even he said that he just sees it as improved self esteem on my part. I did ask if I had been rude and was assured that was not the case. I am pleased if a change has enabled me to stand up for myself. I just don't want to become rude while doing it.
