I tend to have a little more gas now than I did before surgery as well, but I have been a diabetic since I was a teen, therefore I do not contribute it to the sugar free items, I have contributed it to the way our intestines have been restructured due to the surgery.. However, I know that sugar free items can be a side effect for some as well as dairy products, maybe see if it is dairy. There is also something called Beano that helps with gas as well, I know when my son was a child we had to use Mylicon drops, maybe if you call your surgeon and see if you can take this, maybe it will help!!!
Good Luck,

Shelia,
I tried beano a while back and got sicker then a dog why who knows, Dr. said to do gasx after surgery its just semthicone and helps me let the gas out late at night man does it stink (lol) Its the sf stuff but I will talk to my nut angie on thur more about what to do to relieve this. But during the day while its building I can see my tummy literly bloat out so in the am i am skinner and the day goes on i look fatter well you know what i mean i hope.

Try cutting back on the SF items with malitol, sorbitol, any ingredient ending in "tol". These are sugar alcohols and they do tend to cause gas, bloating and "other digestive distress" if eaten in too large of quantities. I know that when I was eating 2 - 3 SF popsicles and other SF "treats" each day, I had a lot of gas and bloating. It's gotten a lot better since I have cut back on the sugar alcohols.

Malitol and sorbitol do it to me...immediately. Overdoing splenda can do it too......and I get the smelly issues at the other end too...I so avoid these and take cholrofresh internal deodorant for all my smelly issues that started after surgery. Sorry so vivid but some of us must confront these issues.
