My 11 year old son received a Congressional Honor, he was nominated based on his academic and leadership abilities, he is in the less than 1% of students from across the nation to be nominated and selected by a special Congressional Committee to receive this honor. He flew out today for Baltimore, MD. He has just called to let me know he landed safely, was meet at the gate by the staff member and has gotten his luggage, I miss him already, he returns on Friday.  He is scheduled to meet President Bush on Wednesday, as long as his schedule does not change as well as several other political figures from Tennessee and across the country.  He will also be going to Philadelphia to see all of the American historic sites; he will be visiting Harpers Ferry, WV , and all of DC as well.   This is the first time he has ever flown alone and been away by himself (for security purposes, parents are not allowed to attend, I could go, but would not be able to go with him on the tours), I am already a nervous wreck.  Please keep us in your prayers as he will be just fine, but MOM will be the one going without sleep and having problems with it all until his plane lands on Friday and I have him safely in my arms.  I am a very proud MOM and he is a wonderful child and I trust him very much,  I know this is a wonderful opportunity for him. He did have 4 others on his flight today, all from all over Tennessee .  Therefore, we had 5 students representing Tennessee and receiving this Congressional Honor!!!     GO TENNESSEE STUDENTS !!!

Shelia, What a batch of mixed emotions for you.  I know it is horrible for you to be missing your son and be worried because it is his first trip away from you.  And then there is the pride you must be feeling.  I am so glad for you, what an honor for you and your son, it does help to know that there are intelligent kids out there, we only get to hear the bad on the news never the good.  Congrats on the honor your son is receiving and I will keep you in my prayers that you will be able to handle all these emotions in stride. Darlene and Freddie,          I thank you both very very much and I am soooooooooooooooo   very very proud of my son.  I just wish that I would have been allowed to experience this honor with him.  I do get an e-mail each night of pictures that they have taken of the events that he is involved in throughout the day, I can't wait to get the first one tonight!!!  It is going to be the most wonderful honor, he is going into the 6th grade and he already has something to put on his college applications. Thanks again for all the prayers,  Shelia

Sheila, What an awesome accomplishment, for him and for you!   I know that feeling of dread while they are away, I am having it now that R.J. is gone for the week, and he's with my parents!  Good luck with the week's activities and post the good stuff (Pics etc.)   Have a good week. Beth

Shelia I know you are so proud.  Heck I have pride swelling up in my own chest and I'm not even a relative! lol But he has accomplished so much even at this young age.  You never know how this might impact his life, and what he will turn out to be.  Its exciting!

Hope "mom" is doing ok and I know you won't be relieved til he gets home!!!!
