Not Good News

But it was what I was kind of expecting.  I met with Dr. Dyer yesterday and before he will say yes or no to surgery, I will have to get medical clearance from a pulmonary Dr. and a Heart Dr.  I have been on oxgyen for a few years now and that is giving him concerns, plus it that goes alright and I get clearance it looks like a liquid diet for me for about a month.  My BMI is quite high and he would like to see me lose about 50 pounds first.   The only thing that came as news to me was he said I might be on a vent for a couple of days after surgery depending on how my breathing goes.  You all keep me in your prayers and now  we just wait for the next appointments. Thanks you all Kim "Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance."

Hey Kim! Don't get discouraged!   I am sure Dr. Dyer just wants to be sure you are healthier before surgery so that surgery and recovery is much easier for you. Hang in there! Rhonda

Hey Kim! Now don't get discouraged.  At least now you know what you need to do and you can take these challenges one at a time. Liquid really isn't as bad as you would think.  I liked it much better that 2 liquids and a Lean Cuisine.  There are some very yummy protein shakes out there...chocolate peanut butter ROCKS! We're here for you, Sweetie.  Let's just go ahead and get started, shall we? Big hug! Freddie

Dear Kimber: Have you considered a second opinion?  I don't know, if, yous insurance will pay for that or not, but, it wouldn't hurt to try! In Christ, Kathie

Kim, These are precautions that all the doctors at Centennial take.  I had no O2 before my surgery and had to be kept on a ventalator for a while after surgery.  Don't give up on Dr Dyer, he is not my surgeon, but having spent some time with him at the Losing to Live retreat, I know he is a wonderful person a truly cares for his patients.  These are all things that will make the surgery easier on you in the long run.  Dr Dyer is my surgeon and he takes every precaution to ensure your safety .. He is insisting on these  heart Doctors for your own good ..the vent is for your own good also..  the liquid diet is hard ..no way around it but you will feel much better and the surgery will go easier on you if you can follow it ...I just want  to wish you the very best of luck and hope everything falls in place for you. Please don't get discouraged and go thru all the necessary red tape, before you know it you will have a surgery date!
