Centennial - Hospital stay

Greetings all...... I've been lurking for a while, and have been able to get most questions that I've had answered by reading posts, but now that I'm close to my date - October 30th, I'm starting to think of some specific questions that I need answers to, so you'll probably be seeing me a little more. Well, here's my first question: Can anyone who had surgery with Centennial tell me if the Women's Hospital allows family to stay overnight in the room?  We live in Madisonville, KY (2 hours away) and DH doesn't want to spend the $ on a hotel room and I don't want him making the trip back and forth while I'm there.... If they don't allow it, does anyone have any ideas for reasonably priced hotels near the hospital. Thanks Jenny

I did not have my surgery at Centennial, but I have known several that have and they had an overnight guest, save the money to spend on your protein, plus you will need someone to be there with you after surgery!!! Welcome to the Board and wish yo uthe best on your surgery!! Had my surgery at Vandy but no one stayed over night with me although they would have allowed it. Sure most hospitals would. You can maybe call and ask their information desk? Welcome to the Board and wish you all the best on your surgery.

Yes, he'll be allowed to stay with you however, my husband found it very uncomfortable... there was a chair that folded out into a bed, a very narrow bed...very uncomfortable.

Jenny, I had my surgery at Centennial, and my  mom stayed with me the entire time, they have a chair that makes into a cot.  Also, you can ask the nurse for your surgeon, I stayed the night before my surgery in a local hotel complimentary, so I wouldn't have to get up in the middle of the night to get there (I live 150 miles from Nashville).  Good luck on your surgery, keep us updated. Jenny, I am from Henderson, so I can understand your husband's desire to not be driving back and forth.  I had my surgery on Sept. 26 with Dr. Dyer at Centennial.  I had a friend who was willing to stay with me for the "duration" of my stay and it was very helpful.  I'd encourage you to try and get your hubby to stay.  You'll need him there to help you in ways neither of you can predict at this point.  The room is private and they do have a chair that makes a bed.  I stayed with a friend when he had surgery and can say it isn't the most comfortable bed in town, but it felt a lot better than paying 185/night for a hotel room.  That is  about the lowest rate I could find near the hospital for the night before surgery.  I had to do the bowel prep the night before and didn't want to be driving through KY and TN with a bad case of the gotta goes at 3 in the morning....go figure.  Best of luck to you and if you have any questions or want some support just let me know.  I feel better and stronger every day.

Anytime you stay at the women's hospital, know that you dont have visiting hours.  people can come & go all night if you want them to.  Plus, someone can stay with you.  Trust me. I've been in there 5 times this year... my mother stayed with me on two separate occasions... for the entire stay......  In my opinion, and my old boyfriends opinion, its better if you do have someonee there to help you.  I also think you are much more seen after by the nurses as they know someone extra is watching.
