I’m in the same boat as you Ellen; I’m seriously thinking about dumping Dr Dyer’s office and the Centennial Center for the treatment of Obesity, so far it’s only been a center of excellently getting on my last nerve.

1.      My original meeting which acquire over a month and a half wait to meet with Dr. Dyer was lost. So it had to be rescheduled a week later on a Friday .

2.    Dr. Dyer’s presentation of the surgery information/ flip chart was giving in such monotonous way it was liked I was his two thousands something patient he had to tell it to that day.

3.    He told the office person (nurse already went home) that I needed some additional test done (blood clots/ breathing) but it was not needed schedule until I was approved for surgery. Both were set up for the next week one on Monday the other on Friday.

4.    The request to the insurance company was sent on October 8 2007. Cigna contact them back in two day saying they needed the corresponding surgery code. I called Cigna this morning to check on the status and was told they are still waiting for the code.

5.    Call to talk to someone at   got the machine, left a message, They have not call back yet.

Yes, that sounds like my run around. It has been over a yr. for me. I keep saying well maybe after this step all will be done. It has gone on forever. I am surprised about Dr. Dyer. I know several here have used him. You need to feel confortable with your surgeon & know he covers every angle.  I love mine, it is his staff that suck.    Best of luck to you. Maybe both of us (and Scott) can soon start our journey. Ellen

Yea with the staff at centennial there’re being nice and all, but it still feels like I’m being treated like a cash cow, just one of countless in the heard....just Poor follow up on there part.

While I was downtown the other day, I stopped in at Baptize Obesity center without an appointment to get info on the Duodenal Switch procedure and Dr. Spaw (he’s the only Doc to do this procedure in Nashville ) came out to the lobby went over it and answers the entire list of questions I had.

Now, that is a good doctor. I don't know much about Duodenal Switch surgery. I just pulled it up on the internet. Are you thinking of going that route?

Both surgeries work with restrictions and malabsorption. Both have pro’s and con’s

RNY works mostly with smaller stomach restriction and minor shorten of the small intestine for malabsoptin.

Duodenal Switch Procedure works just the opposite with not so much restrictions (the stomach is a little bigger) and greater shortening of the small intestine for  less malabsoptin.

I'm so sorry that you guys are going through all of this.  I switched doctors at the last minute because of some similar stuff.  When I went to see Dr. Spaw at Baptist...I knew that I was in the right place. You will know (in your heart) when you find the right surgeon.  You and he/she will just click.  Sounds trite but it is oh so true. Good luck to you all and keep us informed. Freddie
